Meet New Star Wars Characters Soon at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park
Star Wars Celebration 2022 is bustling full of aliens, rebels, and the occasional droid, all coming together at the Anaheim Convention Center to celebration the iconic franchise that has shaped so many of our hearts and minds. Across the way from the convention center is Disneyland Resort—and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. So, naturally the Happiest Place on Earth is top-of-mind for many of the fans enjoying their out-of-this-world weekend at Star Wars Celebration. Luckily for them (and any Disney Parks fan!), Star Wars Celebration hosted the “From a Galaxy Far, Far Away to a Disney Park Near You” panel today to share some exciting new developments about Star Wars at Disney Parks.
One of the stand-out moments of any Star Wars: Galaxy Edge visit is getting to meet your favorite characters—and more will be arriving at the land tomorrow! The legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand will soon stake a claim in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park, starting May 28. Keep a sharp eye out for these two troublemakers hiding in the shadows around Black Spire outpost.
If you were enthralled watching watching Boba Fett reinvent himself on the Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett, alongside Fennec Shand, you’ll be excited to see a new part of their journey! The duo is full of surprises as they navigate the galaxy’s underworld on the sands of Tatooine—and now you’ll get to experience a previously untold part of their story that takes them to the planet Batuu and Black Spire Outpost, a destination long familiar with bounty hunters and even more colorful characters.
Now, we know what you’re thinking: “When do we get to meet Grogu?!” The adorable child who stole our hearts from the first two seasons of The Mandalorian will be headed to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at a later date, along with Din Djarin—a.k.a the Mandalorian! To bide your time until you can meet this fan-favorite duo, keep up with Mando, Grogu, and their journey together with the first two seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney+.
Since Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened in 2019, Star Wars storytelling has experienced a galactic expansion to include many new characters and stories across a wide range of settings. Now, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is likewise expanding the stories guests can encounter when visiting. Having been designed from the outset to connect with a broad range of Star Wars storytelling, Black Spire Outpost has played a role in many of these stories stretching over thousands of years. And while, up to now, most of those story connections have been shared through media and publishing, you’ll soon have an opportunity to connect with those stories with the immersive detail and authenticity that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was designed to deliver.
Disney Parks is committed to the long history of Batuu and the collection of amazing characters who inhabit the outpost, including legacy characters and original characters. With the ever-expanding galaxy of the Star Wars universe, we as visitors may be able to experience different stories throughout Star Wars history—but the characters on Batuu cannot. They will remain in their specific story and timeline and won’t intersect with other characters or stories that would not be appropriate for their time and place.
New Star Wars Characters Coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park – Just Announced at Star Wars Celebration
Greetings from Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim where some of my fellow Imagineers, Lucasfilm colleagues and I just finished a panel called “From a Galaxy Far, Far Away to a Disney Park Near You” and we shared some exciting new developments about Star Wars at Disney Parks.
The legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand will soon stake a claim in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park. Starting tomorrow, May 28th, visitors may find themselves encountering these two attempting to remain in the shadows around Black Spire outpost. Din Djarin, known as the Mandalorian, and Grogu, the child who found protection with Mando, also will journey to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park at a later date. Mando, Grogu and their journey together can be seen in the first two seasons of “The Mandalorian” on Disney+.
Some of you also may be watching Boba Fett reinvent himself on the Disney+ series, “The Book of Boba Fett,” alongside Fennec Shand, who, much like Fett, is clever, capable, and cunning. The duo is full of surprises as they navigate the galaxy’s underworld on the sands of Tatooine and now we will be able to share an untold part of their story that takes them to the planet Batuu and Black Spire Outpost, a destination long familiar with bounty hunters and even more colorful characters.

In addition to these exciting additions to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the Walt Disney Imagineering and Lucasfilm teams walked the Star Wars Celebration audience through the long history of galactic adventures found at Disney parks. Highlights included a look back at the launch of Star Tours, currently celebrating its 35th anniversary at Disneyland park; how fans have really come to embrace Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort as their own; the newest Star Wars experience setting sail this summer, Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge aboard Disney’s newest cruise ship, the Disney Wish; and of course, the recently launched 2-night immersive adventure at Walt Disney World Resort, Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.
Star Wars is filled with memorable personalities that populate a dynamic galaxy – and I’m thrilled more of them will be part of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!
Developed by the galaxy’s brightest minds, the latest free-roaming robotic characters are being tested by Imagineers in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland today. A part of Disney’s robotic character pipeline, Imagineers have teamed-up with animators to design characters capable of great balance and highly expressive motions.
Can you sense the draw of its unmistakable energy? The limited-time Season of the Force will land at Disneyland park very soon, April 5 through June 2, 2024!
We previously teased that Season of the Force will feature limited-time offerings, plus new experiences to continue your Star Wars story at Disneyland Resort. Today, we’re sharing more details on what to expect – including a new nighttime experience in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, along with food, merchandise and more!
New experiences debuting during Season of the Force On select nights starting April 5 at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, you will be able to take in “Fire of the Rising Moons,” a nighttime experience that debuts a different view of the stunning Disneyland park fireworks display, with musical accompaniment.
During this special gathering, villagers and visitors will come together to celebrate their freedom and to honor the heroes and legends of the galaxy who came before them. As the skies over Batuu light up in bursts of color, imaginations are ignited with the iconic music associated with tales from across the galaxy. It will be a powerful moment you won’t want to miss!
Including selections from composer John Williams’ Star Wars film scores, “Fire of the Rising Moons” can be experienced from multiple areas in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, including the Black Spire Spaceport, the TIE Echelon docking platform and the speeder garage. Your MagicBand+ will also add to the ceremony’s atmosphere with colorful lights and ambient vibrations.
Also beginning April 5, Star Tours – The Adventures Continue will feature new additions inspired by the Disney+ series “Ahsoka,” “Andor” and “The Mandalorian.” Earlier this month, we revealed the planet Peridea as the attraction’s newest destination. During your flight, you may also receive urgent transmissions from Ahsoka Tano, Cassian Andor or Din Djarin and Grogu.
Limited-time Star Wars attraction overlay, merch and more Whether you choose the way of the Jedi or pledge your allegiance to the dark side, the many choices of limited-time food and beverages, new merchandise and more will make Season of the Force a must-visit!
The high-speed Space Mountain overlay, Hyperspace Mountain, will return to Tomorrowland for a limited time through June 2. You’ll once again be able to race through the galaxy, encountering a Star Destroyer and dodging TIE fighters along the way.
During Season of the Force, be on the lookout for new merchandise coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Star Trader in Tomorrowland at Disneyland park, plus Star Wars Trading Post in Downtown Disney District.
Among the new releases will be the Star Tours – The Adventures Continue merchandise collection, coming to Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. Pictured above, the hoodie and tee are a great way for galactic galivants to flex their frequent flyer status! Select items will also become available at DisneyStore.com later this year.
Harnessing the power of the Force can really work up an appetite. Fuel up with specialty themed food and beverages available for a limited time, such as the Star Wars sugar cookie. Plus, you will be able to store rations in new collectible novelties, available for purchase while supplies last. Stay tuned for the full menu – the Disney Eats: Season of the Force Foodie Guide will be released soon!
New this year, aspiring bounty hunters in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be able to join the search for Din Djarin, Grogu and more with a holopuck Magic Shot from Disney PhotoPass Service. Returning Star Wars Magic Shots and themed Disney PhotoPass Lenses (included with the purchase of Disney Genie+ service)* create additional opportunities to commemorate your visit to a galaxy far, far away.
Star Wars experiences available throughout the year From out-of-this-world dining at Galactic Grill to thrilling attractions like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Disneyland park is home to Star Wars experiences you can enjoy all year long. My personal favorite: I could make the jump to hyperspace on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run again and again!
At Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, you can use MagicBand+ to track down virtual bounties in the Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters quest. Vibrations and lights from your band help guide you to your bounty, and the augmented reality thermal viewer in the Play Disney Parks app** reveals who is hiding in the shadows.
Aspiring builders can construct their own custom Star Wars merchandise at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. At Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers, you can forge your own lightsaber under the guidance of skilled Gatherers. Droid Depot is stocked with parts, chips and more to assemble your own BB-series, C-series or R-series unit. Purchase is required for both experiences, and advanced reservations are highly encouraged.
