The Next Disney Ambassador Team of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort
Hosting the recent Ambassador ceremony at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort was without a doubt one of the most unforgettable moments of my life. It was such an honor to announce Lily Chan and Tony Dick as the first Disney Ambassador team ever to represent Hong Kong Disneyland Resort! I can’t put into words how touching it was to see all six finalists come together with their families and friends to celebrate such a historic occasion.
Lily and Tony are both incredible and are the perfect combination as our next Disney Ambassadors. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Lily grew a passion for Hong Kong Disneyland and become a full time cast member as soon as she graduated. I met Lily through Disney VoluntEARS, where she is an active member. She frequently spends her free time helping in the community and the resort in many different ways. She is also unbelievably creative and knows how to effectively execute her ideas – which can be seen from the video she produced as part of the Ambassador selection process!
Tony grew up in South Africa and came to Hong Kong Disneyland to pursue his dream of being a singer. I’ve always been a huge fan of watching him perform on stage, from Festival of the Lion King to our new castle show, Follow Your Dreams. His energy and charisma always get the crowd excited! And after getting to know more about him, I’ve found him to be very humble, knowledgeable and always full of great ideas.
Most importantly, I couldn’t be more proud to be passing the Disney Ambassador pin to these two. They have exactly what it takes to continue Walt’s legacy and will both be shining stars for Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. I’m looking forward to hearing more from them and can’t wait to see where their magical journey takes them in serving our cast and the local community.

Duo appointed as Hong Kong Disneyland Resort Ambassadors for the first time
Dreamers from Hong Kong and South Africa join hands for a new chapter of inclusion and diversity
Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is proud to announce the appointment of Lily Chan and Tony Dick as its new 2022-2023 Ambassadors, marking the first time for the resort to appoint two cast members and a non-Chinese cast member in the coveted position. On the back of the pandemic’s impacts and the new norm of operating with flexibility and agility, the pair are joining hands at the forefront of Hong Kong Disneyland’s continued diversity and inclusion efforts in true Disney spirit.
Michael Moriarty, managing director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, expressed his excitement over the appointments: “I’m thrilled to see us breaking from the resort’s traditional practices and appointing two cast members as our ninth Ambassadors. Chan and Dick are a great representation of the diversity in cultures, languages, personalities and expertise among our cast member family as well as the resort’s commitment to building an inclusive culture. I truly believe they will complement one another and bring more hopes and possibilities to our cast members, community and beyond.”
A duo of Disney dreamers
Ambassador-elect Chan was born and raised in Hong Kong, and likely shares a similar story with many other girls in the city. She grew up as the apple of her parents’ eye and was always good student at school. She later worked as a part-time cast member at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort whilst completing her degree at the Education University of Hong Kong. Upon graduating, she continued her career here in Human Resources department, but at the same time found her true spark of magic through her continued work among the local community.
“Some of my favorite Disney memories are from participating in Disney VoluntEARS services,” Chan said. “During the pandemic for example, we worked together to create a series of 30-minute TV programs for Hong Kong Children’s Hospital, delivering happiness to the young patients even across the screen at a time when we needed to think outside of the box.” She added: “While I am thrilled to be an official Ambassador, I hope that every cast member can also be an ambassador when it comes to caring about the resort and also our local community.”
If Chan represents the story of a typical girl here in Hong Kong, then Dick’s story represents another side of the resort’s story. Originally from South Africa, Dick studied Computer Science and Applied Mathematics at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, but due to personal family reasons, he was unable to finish his course. He went on to find his true passion in performing arts, with his talents eventually landing him a position in Entertainment and Costuming department at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort in 2014. As a professional performer and singer, Dick has participated in the latest castle stage show “Follow Your Dreams,” along with the Halloween musical “Let’s Get Wicked,” and the classic “Festival of the Lion King”.
“Although I was forced to give up one dream, in truth it opened up a door for me to pursue another,” Dick said. “There was joy and sadness, but perseverance always leads to success no matter what your dream is. I’ve found a second home in Hong Kong and at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.”
Two stories, one dream
With each Ambassador having different backgrounds, stories and experiences, Chan and Dick share the most important commonality – the Disney dream. They have both grown together with the resort and will have the opportunity to bring their unique characteristics into their roles as Ambassadors. With the spirit of diversity and inclusion at the forefront of their mission, the pair hope to spark fresh joy and excitement as the resort looks to continue serving as a key icon for Hong Kong’s tourism industry. At the same time, the resort’s continued efforts in serving the local community will remain a crucial aspect of the Ambassador program as Chan and Dick take up their positions on January 1.
The Disney Ambassador program dates to 1965 when Walt Disney selected the very first Ambassador for the 10th anniversary of Disneyland, starting a tradition that has grown with Ambassadors now at parks and resorts all around the world. Every selection year, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort elects its Ambassador from more than 5,000 full-time cast members. Acting as the representative of the resort and cast members, the Ambassador – or in this case Ambassadors – participates in various community services, such as Disney VoluntEARS activities, to bring the unique magic of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort to communities in need and share the positive energy of Disney. The Ambassador is also responsible for hosting guests from all around the world, organizing and participating in different events and bringing cast together with the shared purpose of capturing the Disney magic in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong, China Delegations to Join City’s Biggest Homecoming Celebration at HKDL
Recognizing Historic Achievements, Sportsmanship and Inclusion at Four Major Sporting Events
Today, around 1,000 Hong Kong’s winning medalists and associated parties, families and friends from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as the 14th National Games and the 11th National Games for Persons with Disabilities of China, joined a grand and joyful homecoming celebration at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL). This marked one of the city’s biggest sports celebrations to recognize the Hong Kong, China delegations’ wonderful achievements this year and to celebrate the unsung heroes of their success.
HKDL is a place of choice for celebrating life’s special moments. With HKDL’s Castle of Magical Dreams serving as a symbol to inspire hope and courage in the region, the homecoming celebration was an opportunity for Hong Kong’s athletes and their teams to celebrate their success with their families and friends. It was also an opportunity to recognize the undeniable commitment and spirit from the athletes and their teams in making their very own dreams come true among the resort’s audience of families and children. The event also served to celebrate the positive impact our Paralympic and disabled athletes have had on the city’s sporting acclaim for people of all abilities.
Joining the event as guests of honor were Yeung Tak-keung, Commissioner for Sports, Home Affairs Bureau; Timothy Fok, President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China; Jenny Fung, President of Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled, and Michael Moriarty, Managing Director, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
They, together with all athletes and their supporting team members, families and friends, took part in a ceremony at HKDL’s Castle of Magical Dreams. Afterwards, park guests were given an opportunity to praise the teams with an exclusive Grand Marshall along Main Street, U.S.A. The delegation members also took the time to enjoy themselves in the park amid their busy schedule of training and competitions.
Officiating at the ceremony, Commissioner Yeung said the sterling achievements of Hong Kong athletes in the recent four major events marked an astonishing chapter in Hong Kong’s sporting history. He said: “The HKSAR government has greatly supported the development of sports in recent years, including increasing resources, enhancing policies and providing a favorable environment.” He added: “The construction of Kai Tak Sports Park will be completed in late 2023. We can expect more major events to be hosted in Hong Kong, creating more career opportunities for young people who are interested in sports.”
Yeung also said the government will continue to support athletes in preparation for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, Paris 2024 Olympics and the next National Games in 2025 jointly organized by Hong Kong, Guangdong Province and Macau.
HKDL’s Managing Director Michael Moriarty gave recognition to the Hong Kong, China delegations: “To compete at the highest levels of international sport requires not only huge levels of skill, but an unbelievable amount of determination, spirit, sacrifice and perseverance. The athletes representing Hong Kong have demonstrated all of these things as they placed themselves and Hong Kong on top. We are all immensely proud of and inspired by them.
“It’s our athletes and their teams, regardless of background, ability, culture or creed, who have inspired us all. They have become beacons of hope for our all generations to look to as an example of how a belief, passion and hard work can make your dreams come true,” Moriarty added.
Timothy Fok from the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and Jenny Fung from Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled, both gave heartfelt thanks to HKDL for hosting a memorable celebration for Hong Kong athletes and their teams, celebrated their efforts and outstanding performances, and promoted the diverse and inclusive culture of the city.
Cyclist Sarah Lee won bronze in the women's track cycling sprint at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, followed by gold and bronze at the National Games in the women's track cycling sprint and keirin, respectively. “It means so much to still be able to represent Hong Kong at the highest level,” Lee said. “Those years of experience have taught me a lot about dedication and commitment, and I sincerely hope this sporting spotlight will inspire the next generation to continue making this city proud.”
Paralympic athlete Chu Man-kai, who won silver in the badminton men’s singles at the Paralympic Games, said: “Training and competitions are very hard, but everyone has the capability to overcome the different challenges in their life. I appreciate every opportunity given by my coaches and others. Every time I compete I’m faced with new challenges, but I will always work my hardest to do the best I can regardless of the result.”
Olympic Bronze medalists of women’s table tennis, Doo Hoi-kam, Lee Ho-ching and Minnie Soo also joined the celebration party. They gave their appreciation for having an opportunity to wind down and relax after competing, and said their next goals are looking for a breakthrough to compete in future games.
Continued community outreach for sports development
In light of Hong Kong’s continuous success, HKDL will strongly support local sports development. The resort will offer its funding for Sports Legacy Scheme, a charitable institution run by the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China’s for elite athletes who are either planning to retire or have retired to explore their career development in sport. The Scheme will provide around 200 tailor-made professional sports training services to an estimated 200 children and youth from local NGO The Boys’ & Girls’ Club Association (BGCA).
To inspire their interest in sports, HKDL also invited 1,000 families and children from BGCA and the Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth to join today’s celebration event.
