La seconde phase de construction du centre de quarantaine de Penny's Bay érigé sur le terrain réservé à l'origine pour le second parc à thème de Hong Kong Disneyland Resort avance rapidement.

La première phase (800 unités de logement) est entrée progressivement en opération il y a maintenant un mois, le seconde phase (700 unités de logement) sera mise en service fin septembre, la troisième phase ajoutera 2.000 unités de logement supplémentaires avant l'hiver pour porter le total à 3.500 unités de logement.

Le centre de quarantaine de Penny's Bay n'est qu'un des cinq centres de quarantaine de la région administrative spéciale de Hong Kong.

Avec la pandémie Covid-19, le panel annuel consacré au développement économique a été reporté plusieurs fois depuis février dernier pour finalement se tenir fin juin.

Avec les conséquences de la pandémie sur le tourisme, la session consacrée à Hong Kong Disneyland Resort et au Hong Kong Tourism Board a soulevé plusieurs questions.

Dès le lendemain, le député WU Chi-wai a demandé des réponses aux responsables de la commission du tourisme de Hong Kong.  

Après avoir consulté HKDML (Hong Kong Disneyland Management Limited) qui gère Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, la commission du tourisme apporte les réponses suivantes par la voix de Jason Chan (au nom du commissaire au tourisme Joe Wong) :

A nouveau fermés depuis le 15 juillet dernier, Hong Kong Disneyland et Ocean Park Hong Kong pourraient prochainement rouvrir.

La levée des mesures sanitaires par le gouvernement hongkongais le 18 septembre permettrait en effet aux deux parcs à thèmes d'envisager le retour des visiteurs dans leurs installations respectives.

Ces derniers n'ont pas encore communiqué leurs intentions.

“Unless the epidemic situation takes a sudden downturn, the Government expects to issue new directions in the next phase to re-open catering and scheduled premises (including theme parks, exhibition venues, swimming pools, bathhouses, party rooms, bars and pubs, karaoke establishments, clubs or nightclubs, etc.) which we have not been able to re-open due to the higher infection risk,” the government said in a statement.

Other relaxation measures announced on Tuesday include: the ending of a ban on public groups of more than two people, and its replacement with a maximum of four people; an increase in the number of persons allowed to be seated together at one table to four in catering premises; re-opening some sports premises; and the re-opening of some entertainment premises. Cinemas have already reopened.

The shareholders of Hongkong International Theme Parks Limited (HKITP) (i.e. the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (the Government) and The Walt Disney Company) announced the re-appointment of Mr Cha Mou Sing, Payson and Mr Fung Ying Wai, Wilson as Independent Non-Executive Directors (INEDs) for a term of two years with effect from 1 September 2020.

Mr Cha is the Chairman of HKR International Limited. He chaired the Board of the Ocean Park Corporation from 1997 to 2000. Mr Fung was Group Financial Controller of Jardine Matheson and the President of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is the Chairman of the Hong Kong Dance Company and a Board Member of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority. Mr Cha was first appointed as an INED of HKITP in 2006 and Mr Fung was first appointed in 2018. Both Mr Cha and Mr Fung have extensive local and regional business experience that is beneficial to the strategic and continuous development of HKITP.

HKITP is a joint venture established by the Government and The Walt Disney Company in 1999 for the development and operation of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. There are 11 Directors on the Board of HKITP including the two INEDs. The full membership list is enclosed in the Annex :

La propagation du coronavirus 2019 ayant ralenti sur le territoire de Hong Kong, le gouvernement local a commencé a alléger les mesures sanitaires, autorisant entre autre la réouverture des parcs de loisirs.  

Contrairement à Hong Kong Ocean Park qui a déjà annoncé sa réouverture demain vendredi 18 septembre 2020, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort n'a toujours rien communiqué sur une possible réouverture du parc Hong Kong Disneyland.

Réouverture du parc Hong Kong Disneyland ce vendredi 25 septembre à raison de cinq jours par semaine (le parc sera fermé chaque mardi et jeudi sauf exception comme un jour férié par exemple).

Reduced capacity and health measures in place with a five-day week operation

Hong Kong Disneyland park will officially reopen to the public on Sep 25, 2020. In alignment with the latest guidance from health and government authorities, the resort will continue its measured approach with health and safety measures such as capacity control, health screenings, temperature checks, requiring face masks, social distancing, and increased cleaning and sanitization.

Five-day week operation and online reservation

During the initial reopening stage, the park will implement a new five-day per week operation and will be closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays (except public holidays and special days designated by the resort from time to time) until further notice. The park will also continue to control capacity as required by the government. The online reservation system will remain in place, with all guests being required to reserve their visit date with valid tickets or membership cards through the Hong Kong Disneyland Park Visit Reservation website prior to arrival.

Magic Access members may begin to reserve their visit dates beginning on Sep 22. Reservations for other guests will begin at 12 pm on Sep 23. Guests are also required to make a health declaration as part of their reservation process.

As a result of the recent closure and the current five-day per week operating schedule that will be in place, the resort is providing membership extension for Magic Access members*. Members can visit the website for more information about their membership extensions.

The park’s operation and related arrangements will continue to be reviewed on an ongoing basis and adjusted as necessary to take into account the latest government regulations.

* Not applicable to memberships that expired before July 15, 2020, or new membership cards issued on or after Sep 22, 2020.

Health and safety measures remain a priority

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort has health and safety protocols in place throughout the resort and has already increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfection in all high-guest contact areas. After reopening, the park will continue to implement social distancing measures in queues, restaurants (including seating arrangements), attraction vehicles and other facilities throughout the park, reflecting the latest government regulations.

Character experiences will be offered in a new way, including selfie spots around the park to allow guests to take photos with their favorite characters with appropriate social distance. Meanwhile, in compliance with the government’s latest regulations, live performances will be restricted to outdoor venues during the initial reopening stage until further notice.

Ticket and hotel offers to preview the transformed castle prior to opening

A variety of special hotel and ticket packages are now available for guests to see the reimagined Disney castle in its final stage of transformation and enjoy a long-awaited Disney staycation. The Castle of Magical Dreams is slated to launch in celebration of the resort’s 15th anniversary in late 2020.

Guests will be able to witness the reimagined Disney castle - The Castle of Magical Dreams - which is now in its final stage of transformation and is scheduled to officially open in late 2020.

A measured approach offers guests a Disney getaway

The well-being of the resort’s guests and cast members is always a top priority. Health protocols will continue to meet the latest government and health authority regulations, including: increased frequency of cleaning and disinfecting in all high-guest contact areas, as well as social distancing measures in queues, restaurants (including seating arrangements), attraction vehicles and other facilities throughout the park.

There will also be a chance to meet the beloved Disney characters in a new way, including selfie spots placed across the park to allow guests to take photos with characters with appropriate social distance.

During the initial reopening stage, the park will implement a new five-day per week operation and will be closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays, except public holidays and special days designated by the resort, until further notice.

Additionally, Hong Kong Disneyland will continue to operate with reduced capacity using the online reservation system. All guests are required to reserve their visit date with valid tickets or membership cards through the Hong Kong Disneyland Park Visit Reservation website prior to arrival.

Magic Access memberships* will be extended as a result of the recent park closure and the current five-day per week operation that will be in place. Members can visit the website for more information about their memberships extensions.

Numerous offerings to enjoy the Disney magic

New merchandise is also available for guests across the resort following the park’s reopening. These include the new Alien remix merchandise items, that can be found wearing costumes from other fan-favorite Disney and Pixar films, from The Incredibles, Up, Finding Nemo to Inside Out. Guests can also purchase eight Chinese-inspired themed pins which are Hong Kong Disneyland exclusive, and available only for a limited time.

In addition, guests may purchase other selected merchandise items for HK$5 upon a purchase of HK$100 or more, and Magic Access members who spend more than HK$600 at the Emporium will receive a complimentary goodie bag from now until October 25, 2020. Special “Daily Flash Sales” will also be available to all guests, with an extra HK$10 discount to the “Daily Flash Sales” for Magic Access members. Additionally, guests can receive 25 percent off on the popular nuiMOs items when purchasing two different selected characters.

As for new food and beverage offerings, Hong Kong Disneyland will launch the “25th Anniversary Toy Story and Alien Remix Desserts” at Toy Story Land starting on October 1, 2020. Special treats include Buzz Lightyear Green Tea Panna Cotta, Rex Lemon Honey Cake, Lotso Banana Cake, Alien Remix Chocolate Truffle Cake, and Alien Custard Steamed Bun.

What’s more, there are several additional culinary activities at Hong Kong Disneyland’s hotel restaurants to welcome guests looking for a staycation. The “Disney Character Dim Sum Class Plus Lunch” at Crystal Lotus, and the “Cheers at Poolside” cocktail workshop and snacks set at the Sea Breeze Bar, both are being offered from October 1, 2020 through January 3, 2021.

The Sea Breeze Bar is also offering a new Barbecue Dinner, which will be available on weekends and public holidays from September 30 through November 29, 2020. Magic Access members can enjoy a 10 percent discount.

Separately, the resort’s “Disney Hotel Dining and Merchandise Vouchers” will allow guests to enjoy even more dining and shopping experiences at the resort hotels. The voucher, with a face value of HK$1,200, can be purchased for HK$1,000 from September 28, 2020 to March 31, 2021, and includes five lunch e-vouchers, five dinner e-vouchers, and two merchandise e-vouchers.

Hong Kong Disneyland asks for guests’ understanding of and compliance with the following requirements when the park reopens. Guests must:

1. Purchase their tickets in advance and reserve a visit up to seven days in advance of their visit online via the Hong Kong Disneyland reservation ; website. Magic Access members must also make a reservation prior to visiting, but can enjoy the benefit of reserving eight days in advance.

2. Make a required health declaration as part of the Hong Kong Disneyland reservation process.

3. Undergo temperature screening procedures upon arrival. Guests with elevated temperatures cannot be admitted.

4. Wear a mask during their visit, except when enjoying food and beverage at catering premises.

These measures will continue to be reviewed as the situation evolves and will be adjusted as necessary.

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort Names New Managing Director

Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products announced the appointment of Michael Moriarty as Managing Director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL), effective December 27, 2020.

Moriarty joins Hong Kong Disneyland from Hasbro in Hong Kong where, most recently, he was Managing Director of Hasbro Far East and Senior Vice president of Global Sourcing. Prior to this, he held several leadership positions of increasing responsibility during his 14 years at the Walt Disney Company, including at Walt Disney World Resort, Walt Disney Imagineering and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. Between 2009 and 2012, Michael was chief financial officer of HKDL, where he was responsible for finance, controllership, treasury, alliances and technology during a period of significant expansion that increased the park’s size by 25% with the addition of new lands, attraction and experience.

Announcing the appointment, Jill Estorino, President and Managing Director, Disney Parks International said: “This appointment comes at an exciting time as the resort launches its 15th anniversary celebration. With Michael’s extensive experience in finance, commercial strategy and operations, along with his knowledge of the Hong Kong Market and relationships across Asia, the resort will continue to be well positioned to help drive the recovery of the tourism industry in Hong Kong.”

Moriarty will replace Stephanie Young, who is transitioning to President, Consumer Products, Games and Publishing for Walt Disney Parks, Experiences and Products in December.

Estorino added, “I want to thank Stephanie for her remarkable contributions to the resort. Under her leadership, HKDL saw the opening of “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle!”, continued to build on the unique presence of Marvel at the Resort and will unveil the “Castle of Magical Dreams” as part of the Resort’s 15th anniversary celebration.”

“I am pleased be returning to the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and work with the Resort team to build upon the strong foundation laid by Stephanie,” said Moriarty. “This is an exciting time for Hong Kong Disneyland Resort with several new developments underway that underscore a commitment to Hong Kong and its people as we look to the future of this great city as a place where tourism will continue to thrive.”

Moriarty holds a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Finance from Lehigh University. He and his family have lived in Hong Kong for nearly 15 years.

Inspired by 13 stories of beloved Disney Princesses and Queens, the Castle of Magical Dreams offers something special for every guest with its many towers and spires embracing iconic patterns, textures, colors and ornamentation unique to each story.

When the reimagined castle opens to the public – the first of its kind in Disney’s history – not only will it be a living centerpiece of Hong Kong Disneyland, but it will also act as a shining beacon of courage, hope and possibility to all guests. Guests will be able to admire these features both up-close and afar, against the idyllic backdrop of the lush landscape of the surrounding mountains.



As part of the castle’s magical transformation, the resort invited guests, cast members, community partners and Disney friends, including Mickey Mouse, to share their own dreams and wishes on “magical dream cards.” These cards were collected in a treasure chest and lifted to the top of the tallest tower in the castle. This act symbolizes the rebirth of the castle through the power of everyone’s aspirations, ensuring that the heart of the resort will always be filled with hopes and dreams.



Witness the castle’s magical transformation

This is the first time in Disney history that an existing castle has undergone such a grand transformation. To mark the occasion, guests can visit the “Building a Dream: The Magic Behind a Disney Castle” exhibition, and embark on a visual journey that goes behind the magic, discovering the Walt Disney Imagineering process of reimagining the beloved castle, and gaining insights into the transformation from concept and design development, to the innovative building techniques, interpretation of the Disney Princesses and Queens’ stories in partnership with Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios, and upcoming entertainment offerings.







Starting the same day, a special “Glimpse into the Magic” tour of the Castle of Magical Dreams will be available to guests. This tour allows guests to venture through the castle, whilst being guided by an audio narration from local celebrity and Disney fan, Karena Lam. “It’s a very immersive tour which allows guests to appreciate the architectural designs of the towers, turrets, domes, spires and finials, and see how their various colors, icons, patterns, and cultural features were inspired by the Princesses and Queens,” Lam shared after experiencing the tour.

To celebrate this historic milestone, the resort is launching a 15-day countdown to the 15th anniversary celebration from November 6 on the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort official website. This virtual countdown to the launch will also be available on the resort’s Instagram account, inviting guests from all around the world to join in the celebrations.
