Imagineering Playtests Incredible “Lifesize” Tiny Tinker Bell Virtual Meet & Greet at Disney California Adventure
Disneyland Resort has yet to reopen, but select guests were treated to a magical experience at the “A Touch of Disney” event at Disney California Adventure. Imagineering was conducting a playtest of a potential new experience: a meet-and-greet with a “lifesize” tiny Tinker Bell. Playtests are part of the development process used by Imagineers. After regular testing, this allows the Imagineers to gauge guest interest and receive feedback from their intended audience. We’ve seen character technology playtests before with the talking Mickey Mouse meet-and-greet, which then for a bit was a permanent offering. Tinker Bell first appeared in her lantern. She then flew around the room. She landed in a device of her own invention that allowed her voice to be amplified so the guests could hear her. She was fully interactive and addressed the children by name. Many projections were utilized, including “writing” in a book and butterflies flying around the room.

Jenn Tanaka a écrit:
Disney Magic!!! A journey for popcorn led us to a friendly cast member. He kindly invited us to visit Tinker Bell’s workshop!
During #atouchofdisney , our family was asked to participate in an #imagineering playtest where the kids learned all about Pixie Hollow The children were star struck at first, but then the magic took over and they were chatting with #tinkerbell as if she were dear friend. It was truly a special visit!
Currently, the #castmembers are testing out this attraction. I hope they keep this #character experience when the parks reopen!

Disneyland to launch new annual pass program this year
Disneyland resort president Ken Potrock says on the D23 Inside Disney podcast that the new membership program for the Anaheim theme parks will be launched this year.
Disneyland will launch a new membership program this year to replace the annual pass program that was canceled in January out of concern that demand by a million passholders could overwhelm the parks once they reopen following a yearlong coronavirus closure.
Disneyland resort president Ken Potrock said on the D23 Inside Disney podcast that the new membership program for the Anaheim theme parks will be launched this year.
“We’re working on that right now and we will clearly be launching something before the end of the year,” Potrock said on the D23 podcast. “It’s going to be an exciting program that people — our biggest fans, quite honestly, our most loyal fans — I think are going to be very responsive to.”
Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will reopen at reduced capacity with rides and attractions on Friday, April 30 following a 13-month pandemic closure.
“We thought this was a great opportunity for us to reimagine the annual pass program that wasn’t just built on the last couple of decades, but was built on how our guests and our fans want to use the parks,” Potrock said on the podcast.
Starting on April 1, California theme parks could reopen at 15% attendance capacity in the red/substantial tier 2, 25% capacity in the orange/moderate tier 3 and 35% capacity in the least-restrictive yellow/minimal tier 4 under guidelines in Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy.
“We’re still operating under pretty intense capacity restrictions,” Potrock said on the podcast. “So there’s going to be a lot less people in the parks initially and quite honestly, hopefully, a lot less people in the parks as we manage capacity to enhance the guest experience as we go forward.”
Disneyland shocked fans by canceling its four decade-old annual passholder program in January and announcing that a new membership program would be unveiled at a later date.
The expectation has always been that the new membership program would be rolled out sometime after Disneyland and DCA reopened on April 30.
“We’re just trying to have the time to create a new program that allows us to create something that we think is more customized and more appropriate going forward in this new normal,” Potrock said in January.
Potrock said in January that he hoped to launch the new membership program when Disneyland and DCA reopened.
“Our hope is to be ready for this whenever we’re allowed to open. That is our hope,” Potrock said in January. “We are working all hands on deck to develop this as rapidly as we possibly can.”
First Guests Experience Theme Park Magic at Disneyland Resort
The magic is here! After a long absence, the Disneyland Resort once again has opened its gates.
The morning started off with Bob Chapek, Walt Disney Company CEO, addressing cast members at a ceremony celebrating the historic reopening.
Once reopen, guests were thrilled to explore the beloved landscapes of Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks — from the steps of the Disneyland Train Station and the Pixar Pier boardwalk, to the peaks of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the steel thrills of the Incredicoaster.
We were there to catch the emotion as the first guests rediscovered the fun!

Disneyland Resort Launches New Way to Purchase Theme Park Tickets and Make Park Reservations at the Same Time
Good news, Disneyland fans! Today, we are introducing a new, easy way to plan your next visit to the Happiest Place on Earth.
As you likely know, Disneyland Resort theme park capacity is limited to comply with governmental requirements and to promote physical distancing, so all guests (ages 3 and older) returning to the parks need to have both a ticket and theme park reservation for the same park on the same date before visiting the parks at the Disneyland Resort.
For guests purchasing new tickets on Disneyland.com, we’ve made it easier than ever as you can now book your theme park reservation at the same time you purchase your ticket! Here’s a quick look at how it works:
To purchase a ticket and make a theme park reservation together:
1. Start at Disneyland.com/ParkReservations and click “Select Ticket.”
2. Select the number of days you wish to visit the parks.
3. Choose the number of tickets you need for all guests in your party, ages 3 and up.
4. Select your ticket type – one park per day, or Park Hopper tickets.
5. Pick a date and park for your theme park reservation, subject to availability.
• If you choose Park Hopper tickets, select your starting park for each day of your visit, subject to availability. You can then begin crossing over between the parks after 1 p.m. that day (based on availability)!
6. For added convenience, you may now select the add-on option of purchasing parking vouchers, in advance.
7. Review your current selections, and purchase!
If you already have a valid ticket, you’re halfway there! All you have to do now is book your theme park reservation using the separate reservation booking tool.
If you’ve already purchased and have a valid ticket:
1. Log into your Disney account on Disneyland.com or the Disneyland app to link valid theme park tickets prior to accessing the park reservation system.
2. Head to Disneyland.com/ParkReservations and click “Make Park Reservation.”
3. Create your party.
4. Select the day and theme park you’d like to visit. Guests with Park Hopper tickets will select which theme park they wish to start their day, pending availability, and then will be able to begin crossing over between the parks after 1 p.m. that day (based on availability).
5. Review, and confirm your visit! And as a reminder, guests with multi-day tickets will be required to make a separate park reservation for each day they plan to visit the theme parks.
In addition to making sure you have your valid ticket and theme park reservation prior to your arrival, here are a few additional reminders to help you plan ahead of your visit back to the theme parks:
* Until further clarification from the state, only California residents may visit the parks, and in groups no larger than 3 households, in line with current state guidelines. Proof of residency may be required.
* Keep in mind that appropriate face coverings for each guest age 2 and older, including those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine, must be worn at all times, except while actively eating or drinking, and while physically distanced. Eating and drinking are only permitted in designated dining areas while in the theme parks and not permitted while queuing or in attractions.
* Download the latest version of the Disneyland app* before you arrive. Plan ahead with mobile order to purchase food at select locations in the parks with contactless payment, join a virtual queue, check attraction wait times, park maps, and so much more! And make sure your notification and location services are turned on so you can get the most out of the app’s features.
To learn more about important information to know before visiting Disneyland Resort, please visit Disneyland.com/update. We can’t wait to welcome you back to the magic at Disneyland Resort!
*Message, data and roaming rates may apply. Availability subject to handset limitations and features may vary by handset or service provider. Coverage and app stores not available everywhere. If you’re under 18, get your parents’ permission first. Some app features require valid theme park admission and park reservation.
Ken Potrock (fin décembre 2020) a écrit:
Welcome to the next era of theme park experience !
Josh D'Amaro (juin 2021) a écrit:
Disneyland reveals which COVID-era changes will stay, which will go
The pre-pandemic version of Disneyland might be gone forever.
California lifted most of its coronavirus safety restrictions this week, and the parks at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim are continuing to reopen in phases, but a handful of the COVID-era changes are going to stick.
“I don’t want to say we are going to go back to the way it was,” Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, said Thursday about managing the parks. “I want to be really smart in the way we do this.”
With the government-imposed attendance caps and physical distance requirements gone, the Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks are expected to relaunch several rides, musical acts and nighttime extravaganzas over the next few weeks and other attractions later this summer.
In some ways, the parks will never return to pre-pandemic operations. Disney executives say the 15-month closure helped them rethink how best to manage one of the biggest headaches at the resort: the enormous throngs of Disney-loving visitors.
That includes keeping in place a reservation system that was adopted to manage visitor numbers under the state-imposed capacity limits and the continued use of a virtual queuing system that was designed to give all parkgoers a shot at visiting the most popular attractions.
The annual pass program — which was canceled in January and which experts blamed for some of the parks’ crowding problems — will be replaced with a membership program that “will reflect the behavior of our superfans,” D’Amaro said, adding that more details will be released “relatively soon.”
Disneyland and Disney California Adventure closed in March 2020 because of the pandemic and reopened April 30 of this year under a slew of COVID-19 restrictions. When the state lifted most of those restrictions Tuesday, the parks largely followed suit. Parkgoers will no longer have their temperature taken upon entering the property.
Parkgoers who have been fully vaccinated no longer need to wear a mask in the parks. And Disney won’t require proof of vaccination — visitors will just have to attest they are in compliance.
The closure came less than a year after Disneyland opened its $1-billion Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the largest expansion in the park’s history. The expansion’s second and most anticipated ride, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, opened in January 2020 only to be shut by the pandemic two months later.
Before the closure, the resort employed about 32,000 workers. D’Amaro said the resort has about 15,000 employees back at work, and he expects to hire hundreds more over the next few months. It remains unclear when or whether the resort will return to its pre-pandemic staffing levels.
Since the parks reopened, attractions have been coming online in phases. The new land that was scheduled to open last summer — Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure — opened June 4, drawing huge attendance in the first few weeks. The Disneyland Band is scheduled to return Friday; other musical acts, such as the Five and Dime jazz quintet, are expected to return later this month.
Disneyland’s Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters and Storybook Land Canal Boats are set to reopen next week.
The park’s nighttime fireworks shows will return July 4. Parades and opportunities to meet costumed characters are expected to come back at an unspecified later date.
The Disneyland Monorail and the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage ride remain closed, with no reopening date announced.
Although many attractions are still offline, the parks has welcomed pre-pandemic-size crowds in the days since the state restrictions lifted. Wait times for the most popular rides, such as the Indiana Jones Adventure, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Space Mountain, climbed to more than 40 minutes Thursday afternoon.
D’Amaro attributes the recent crowd sizes to the pent-up demand of Disney fans who have been away for more than a year. “The yearning for the Disney experience has grown stronger over the pandemic,” he said.
One way to manage the returning crowds, he said will be to continue requiring that ticket holders also book a reservation for the day they want to use their tickets. Both parks are fully booked almost every day for the next two weeks, according to the resort’s reservation calendar.
A virtual queuing system that is managed through the Disneyland app was introduced in 2019 to manage the crowds at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. A similar queuing system is being used for the Web Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure ride at Disney California Adventure’s Avengers Campus. For some weeks, the park used the ride’s queuing system to help regulate access to the campus as a whole — a measure to prevent crowding — but now park visitors can stroll into the campus at will.
Despite social media posts from park visitors complaining about not getting access to the superhero campus in the first few days after it opened, D’Amaro said the virtual queuing system was a “solid tool” that ensured that most parkgoers were able to visit the new campus.
“I feel like we have done a really nice job of setting up for this next era of theme park experience,” he said.
