Little Town [ABC Signature/Disney - 202?]

D'après Hollywood Reporter, une série préquelle à La Belle et la Bête serait à l’étude pour Disney+. Les 6 épisodes mettraient en scène les aventures de Gaston et LeFou avant les événements du film de 2017 par les créateurs de la série Once Upon a Time, Eddy Kitsis et Adam Horowitz. Josh Gad serait également co-créateur, scénariste et showrunner.

La série comporterait des numéros musicaux, Alan Menken serait en discussion pour les composer. Aucune autre star du film (comme Emma Watson et Dan Stevens) n'est pour l'instant rattaché au projet, mais il n'est pas exclu qu'ils apparaissent dans la série.

Gaston and LeFou are getting an origin story.

Streaming service Disney+ is teaming with Once Upon a Time creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz as well as stars Josh Gad and Luke Evans for a Beauty and the Beast prequel limited series to the 2017 feature film in which the latter pair starred.

The untitled limited series will be a six-episode musical event, with composer Alan Menken in talks to return as well. Sources say the project, which is currently in the early development stage, will take place well before the events of the film and also expand the Beauty and the Beast universe. No other stars from the film — like Emma Watson and Dan Stevens — are currently attached, though sources say there is a possibility that they could pop in for a guest spot.

Kitsis and Horowitz will serve as showrunners alongside Gad. Evans, Gad as well as Kitsis and Horowitz will all exec produce. Gad, Kitsis and Horowitz will all write scripts. ABC Signature Studios is the studio on the series. (It's worth noting that Kitsis and Horowitz briefly explored Beauty and the Beast during their time running ABC's Disney-themed drama Once Upon a Time, with Robert Carlyle's Rumpelstiltskin playing the Beast, while Emilie de Ravin was Belle.)

Sources say the Beauty and the Beast prequel stemmed from Kitsis and Horowitz's time working with Gad on the scrapped Muppets Live Another Day comedy series that was in the works for months at Disney+. The trio created the comedy, which was to be an eight-episode limited series that took place after the events of Muppets Take Manhattan. Conversations about the untitled Beauty and the Beast prequel began shortly after the trio decided to depart Muppets.

Reps for Disney+ and ABC Studios declined comment.

Released in 2017, the live-action Beauty and the Beast feature grossed more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office. This is the latest Disney intellectual property to get the TV series treatment for Disney+, joining a growing slate of Marvel and Star Wars titles as well as Pixar's Monsters, Inc., High School Musical, the stalled Lizzie McGuire, The Sandlot, Turner & Hooch and The Mighty Ducks, among others.

For their part, Kitsis and Horowitz are running Apple anthology Amazing Stories, which debuts Friday on the TV+ platform. The duo have a sizable overall deal at ABC Studios.

Je ne sais pas trop quoi en penser. D'un côté, j'adore l'univers de La Belle et La Bête et y replonger me ferait extrêmement plaisir. Mais de l'autre, je ne suis pas forcément fan du duo (des personnages j'entends, j'aime bien les deux acteurs, qui sont devenus très amis sur le tournage, et cela s'est bien ressenti dans le film). Je pense que j'aurais préféré un second film plutôt que cette série... Mais je regarderai sans doute si le projet se concrétise

Perso, ça ne me fait clairement pas envie... En même temps, je n'aime pas du tout le remake de La Belle et la Bête, et je n'apprécie pas énormément comment ces deux personnages y sont représentés dedans. Donc forcément, ça ne s'adresse pas tellement à moi...
Mais en même temps, certains points m'intriguent. Je me demande s'ils assumeront l'aspect romantique de leur relation (quand bien même ce n'est que dans un sen), ou si ça restera encore réduit à du gag idiot. Je serais également curieuse de voir comment Alan Menken enrichirait l'univers musical de cet univers.

D'un coté je suis ni attaché au film de 2017, ni à ses personnages, donc j'ai envie de dire osef.

D'un autre, sur le papier ça me semble déjà plus ambitieux que les deux suites Disney Toon qu'il y a eu pour étendre l'univers et l'histoire.

Les créateurs de Once et Menken qui continuerait de composer l'univers de la Belle et la Bête, j'ai hâte !

Ça, c'est un projet qui m'intéresse!
D'autant que j'ai beaucoup aimé la relation entre Gaston et LeFou dans le remake.

Je trouve que le projet fait un peu "forcé", j'ai l'impression qu'ils n'ont tellement pas envie de prendre le moindre risque qu'ils en viennent à faire une série sur n'importe quel élément d'un film qui a marché. Après je comprend que ce projet puisse intéressé certains mais moi je trouve qu'il n'y a aucun intérêt à faire une série sur le duo.

Le duo Gaston/LeFou a beaucoup de fans alors cette nouvelle n'est pas si surprenante.


L'idée d'une préquelle sur le passé de Gaston et LeFou me rappelle cette vidéo, en partenariat avec Young Storytellers et Tongal, sortie en 2017 pour la promo de La Belle et la Bête :

C'est une blague !!! Je sais pas quoi penser ! Le remake était certes inutile, mais j'avais plutôt bien, malgré de grand défauts !

Comme un petit teasing du projet Disney+ autour de Gaston et Le Fou, Josh Gad, Luke Evans, et Alan Menken ont interprété (à distance) Gaston pour la soirée Disney Family Singalong :

Josh Gad et Adam Horowitz y ont subtilement fait allusion dans leurs tweets.

Il a l'air bien plus confiant sur l'avancée de ce projet que pour les Muppets à l'époque.

Maintenant, nous sommes en plein développement. Les deuxième et troisième épisodes ont été écrits et nous avons entendu une partie de la musique d'Alan Menken. Nous sommes tellement honorés de l'avoir à bord, écrivant la musique, ce qui est extraordinaire en soi. Nous nous sentons tellement chanceux d'avoir ce talentueux groupe de personnes créant une histoire sur deux personnages très aimés et très détestés, mais c'est excitant. Il y a beaucoup de questions sur : Par où commencer? Que dirons-nous? Qui sont ces gens? Lorsqu'on les rencontrera, où seront-ils? Donc ça va être une expérience vraiment amusante. Moi et Josh vibrons littéralement d'excitation de filmer ça."

On Thursday during a presentation for investors, Disney confirmed that they are officially going to be bringing a Beauty and the Beast prequel to the streaming platform. The live-action series will reunite Josh Gad and Luke Evans in their roles as Lefou and Gaston from the 2017 live-action feature film adaptation of the Disney classic.

Continuing the legacy of the 1991 animated film, composer Alan Menken is also returning to write new music for the series.

The show, which was previously said to be early in development, will expand the world of Beauty and the Beast to tell tales of the misadventures of Lefou and Gaston prior to the events of the film. Once Upon a Time creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are writing what has been described as a six-episode musical event.

Evans, Gad, Kitsis, and Horowitz will executive produce, while Gad, Kitsis, and Horowitz write the scripts.

In the 2017 feature film, Gad portrayed Lefou as a gay man, wrestling with his attraction to his crony Gaston and even offering up what director Bill Condon described as "an exclusively gay moment." It seems possible the series could explore that aspect of the character more, but further plot details are scarce.

The series joins a slate of Disney+ originals announced during the Thursday presentation.

La réalisatrice Liesl Tommy a signé pour mettre en scène la série. Elle a notamment travaillé sur des épisodes de Jessica Jones et de The Walking Dead.

C'est une excellente nouvelle. J'adore l'univers de Belle et contrairement à beaucoup de fans ^^ j'adore le film live. Retrouver le duo pour proposer une préquelle qui empruntera certains aspects au film avec des musiques par exemple, moi je veux encore et encore. J'espère vraiment une série se concentrant sur le village et ses entourages... casanier moi, nnooonnn et revoir le beau Luke Evans dans le rôle de Gaston, c'est un grand oui. Le choix de la réalisatrice est très bon en tout cas, je ne sais pas quels épisodes de Walking Dead elle a fait car que je n'ai pas vu la série dans son entièreté, mais j'ai vu Jessica Jones et j'aime beaucoup la série, que ce soit l'histoire ou la mise en image. Briana Middleton rejoint le casting de Little Town pour jouer le personnage inédit de Tilly.

Variety confirme l'arrivée de Briana Middleton dans le rôle de Tilly, la demi-sœur de Louie, alias Le Fou. La série comportera 8 épisodes, dont Liesl Tommy réalisera le premier, et la production débutera au printemps 2022.



Située dans le royaume emblématique de La Belle et la Bête des années auparavant, la série suivra Gaston (Evans) et LeFou (Gad) alors qu'ils partent avec la demi-soeur de LeFou, Tilly (Middleton), après qu'une surprenante révélation du passé de celle-ci soit révélée, entrainant le trio improbable dans un voyage inattendu rempli de romance, de comédie et d'aventure. Disney Plus has given the series an eight-episode order. It was developed, executive produced and written by Gad, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz with each serving as a co-showrunner. Evans will produce. Liesl Tommy will executive produce and will direct the first episode. The project will also feature an original soundtrack from the legendary composer Alan Menken, who will also serve as executive producer. The lyrics for the first episode will be by Glenn Slater. Production will begin in spring 2022. ABC Signature will produce.

The series will mark one of Middleton’s first major onscreen roles. She will next be seen in the Amazon-Sony feature “The Tender Bar” opposite Ben Affleck and Tye Sheridan. The film is based on J.R. Moehringer’s memoir with George Clooney directing and producing.

“For three decades, this tale as old as time has inspired generations of fans around the world,” stated Michael Paull, president, Disney+ and ESPN+. “We can’t wait to welcome our guests back to the magical and musical world of “Beauty and the Beast” for an all new chapter with LeFou, Gaston, and a fantastic new cast of characters.”

The “Beauty and the Beast” live-action film was released in March 2017 with Emma Waton and Dan Stevens in the lead roles. Neither of them is currently attached to the new Disney Plus project. The film opened to mostly positive reviews from critics, holding a 71% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It was also a box office success, grossing over $1.2 billion worldwide on a reported budget of $160 million

Evans is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content, and United Agents. Gad is repped by WME, Sugar23, and Ziffren Brittenham. Middleton is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Eh bé, après l'univers étendu de Star Wars, on peut vraiment parler d'univers étendu pour le film d'animation de 1991 entre les prequels, le film live action et cette série. Quelque part, je trouve ça vraiment dingue qu'en l'espace de 10 ans, on en soit arrivé à une telle production en chaîne de spin-off de films d'animation. C'est la preuve que Disney, plus que jamais, souhaite atteindre une cible bien plus vaste que les enfants.
