| Les dessins préparatoires sont très chouettes. Je ne dis pas non à une série, ça peut être chouette. Merci pour l'information. | Selon Deadline, Christian Slater incarnera l'ogre Mulgarath. - Deadline Hollywood a écrit:
- Christian Slater To Star As Mulgarath In ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ Disney+ Series
EXCLUSIVE: Christian Slater has been tapped as a major lead in The Spiderwick Chronicles, Disney+’s live-action series adaptation of the popular fantasy books.
Slater will play Mulgarath (alter ego Dr. Dorian Brauer), a capital-V Villain who does what all ogres do — he eats people, an insatiable desire to consume. Mulgarath wants the secrets contained in Arthur Spiderwick’s Field Guide to the Natural World for a nefarious scheme that will satisfy his hunger. I hear this is a one-season commitment.
Based on the series of bestselling books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, The Spiderwick Chronicles is a contemporary American gothic coming-of-age story that addresses kids and families dealing with mental health issues among other relevant topics. Upon leaving New York and moving to Michigan and into their run-down ancestral home—The Spiderwick Estate—with their mother, twin brothers Jared and Simon Grace, along with their sister Mallory, find themselves pulled into an alternate, fantastical world.
Kat Coiro will direct the first two episodes of the series, a modern coming-of-age story combined with fantasy adventure, produced by Paramount Television Studios and 20th Television. Aron Eli Coleite (Locke & Key) is showrunner and exec produces with Coiro, Holly Black, DiTerlizzi, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg and Julie Kane-Ritsch.
Slater recently wrapped Zoe Kravitz’s directorial debut Pussy Island with Channing Tatum and Naomie Ackie, and Jerry Seinfeld’s directorial debut Unfrosted: A Pop Tart Story. He also filmed action-comedy Freelance alongside John Cena, FX’s Fleishman Is In Trouble and was the narrator of the animated spinoff The Boys: Diabolical. He was recently nominated for a Critics Choice Award for his performance in Peacock’s Dr. Death
Slater, a Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards winner for his starring role in Mr. Robot, is repped by UTA and Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen.

- ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’: Lyon Daniels & Noah Cottrell To Star As Jared & Simon In Disney+ Series
EXCLUSIVE: Lyon Daniels (We Can Be Heroes) and Noah Cottrell (Gordita Chronicles) have been cast as the young leads, twin brothers Jared and Simon, in Disney+’s live-action series The Spiderwick Chronicles.
Based on the popular series of bestselling books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, The Spiderwick Chronicles is a contemporary American gothic coming-of-age story that addresses kids and families dealing with mental health issues among other relevant topics. Upon leaving New York and moving to Michigan and into their run-down ancestral home—The Spiderwick Estate—with their mother, twin brothers Jared (Daniels) and Simon (Cottrell) Grace, along with their sister Mallory, find themselves pulled into an alternate, fantastical world.
Daniels’ Jared is the adventurous, clever, and impulsive twin brother, who has been troubled by anger issues. Cottrell is the thoughtful, more rational twin Simon, who is an animal lover – Jared’s antithesis in everything. The twins have been inseparable since birth and even developed their own special “twin language,” but resentments are growing between them, threatening to disrupt their brotherly bond.
They join Christian Slater, who has been tapped as the lead villain Mulgarath.

Cottrell’s recent TV credits include Gordita Chronicles and the role of Diego on Punky Brewster. He’ll next be seen on the big screen in family adventure pic Boys of Summer. He’s repped by Innovative Artists, The Kim Dawson Agency and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher.
Daniels was most recently seen in the feature film We Can Be Heroes and on TV appeared in Amazon’s Patriot. He’s repped by A3 Artists Agency, Industry Entertainment and Gochman Law Group.

- Deadline a écrit:
‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ Not Going Forward At Disney+ As Part Of Content Cost-Cutting & Strategy Shift; Being Shopped By Paramount TV Studios EXCLUSIVE: Amid a focus on content curation and Disney-owned IP, Disney+ is not proceeding with The Spiderwick Chronicles, its live-action series adaptation of the popular children’s fantasy books, Deadline has learned.
The six-episode series, from Paramount Television Studios and 20th Television, has been completed. It is currently being shopped by Paramount to other potential buyers.
The decision comes as Disney — along with other media companies — have been reevaluating their streaming strategies by cutting programming costs with a renewed focus on profitability. It is part of the major content write-off announced by Disney in May, I hear.
“We are in the process of reviewing the content on our DTC services to align with the strategic changes in our approach to content curation,” Disney CFO Christine McCarthy at the time. “As a result, we will be removing certain content from our streaming platforms, and currently expect to take an impairment charge of approximately $1.5 to $1.8 billion.”
Shortly after that announcement was made, dozens of original series and specials were taken off Disney+ as well as Hulu. In July, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that there will be a pullback in making Marvel and Star Wars series and movies for Disney+ too. Overall, Disney in February unveiled a plan for a $3 billion cut in non-sports content spend.
Additionally, Disney+’s live-action strategy also has been reassessed. The Spiderwick Chronicles was a rare Disney+ series based on non-Disney IP coming from an outside studio.
Moving forward, Disney Branded Television, which supplies Disney+ with non-Marvel, Star Wars or Nat Geo live-action content, will be leaning more heavily into Disney-owned IP, I hear.
A prime example of that is the upcoming Percy Jackson TV series, based on the novels published by Disney’s Hyperion Books.
There will be exceptions, I hear, including the upcoming Goosebumps series from Sony TV, which I hear will air on both Disney+ and Hulu, and a new Doctor Who installment from BBC.
There is new content in the pipeline, whose development and green light have been put on hold because of the ongoing strikes as the Disney+ non-Marvel/Star Wars live-action slate is going through a changeover, with most of the first wave of original series no longer on the platform.
The Spiderweb Chronicles was first announced as part of the Disney+ Day in November 2021. It went into production last September in Canada and wrapped filming in early 2023. Christian Slater, who had a one-season deal to play villain Mulgarath, stars alongside Jack Dylan Grazer, Lyon Daniels, Noah Cottrell, Joy Bryant and Mychala Lee.

| Les Chroniques de Spiderwick a été récupérée par Roku (plateforme gratuite financée par la publicité). La série aurait été jugée trop sombre pour Disney+. - Deadline a écrit:
‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ TV Series Lands At Roku After Disney+ Exit
EXCLUSIVE: The Spiderwick Chronicles, starring Joy Bryant and Christian Slater, has found a new home. Roku has picked up the exclusive U.S. rights to the television adaptation of the popular children’s fantasy books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. The eight-episode series, from Paramount Television Studios and 20th Television, will premiere on the platform in early 2024.
For Roku, this marks the most ambitious series to date. So far, the scripted slate of the free, ad-supported streamer has consisted largely of shows from the Quibi content library it acquired in 2021.
“It is an honor to bring The Spiderwick Chronicles, a spectacular adventure-filled story led by the incredible Christian Slater and Joy Bryant, exclusively to The Roku Channel,” said Brian Tannenbaum, Head of Originals, Roku Media. “We cannot wait to introduce this exquisitely crafted series, imagined by a world-class creative team, to millions of streamers.”
The news comes a month and a half after Disney+, which originally had ordered The Spiderwick Chronicles, opted not to proceed with the series as part of a cost-cutting streaming programming removal with a focus on content curation and Disney-owned IP. Additionally, I hear the series was deemed to be darker than the typical Disney+ fare.
As Deadline reported at the time, Paramount TV Studios immediately started shopping The Spiderwick Chronicles. Led by President Nicole Clemens, the studio’s team was able to quickly find a new platform for the series in an uncertain marketplace impacted by an industry contraction and double Hollywood strikes.
“We are elated that The Spiderwick Chronicles has found a new home and want to thank The Roku Channel for their passionate partnership,” Clemens said. “Our showrunner Aron Eli Coleite has crafted a beautiful series full of all the enchantment that made the books so beloved, and we can’t wait for audiences to meet these wonderful characters.”
At Roku, The Spiderwick Chronicles will join Chad, another series which had been produced for a big media company (Warner Bros. Discovery) that underwent content cuts. Its second season also is expected to debut in early 2024.
Like most studios and streamers, Roku recently underwent a cost reduction, laying off around 10% of staff and taking an impairment charge in the $55 million – $65 million range related to removing licensed and produced content from the platform.
Based on the wildly popular fantasy adventure novels, which have sold 20 million copies in over 30 countries, The Spiderwick Chronicles follows the coming-of-age story of the Grace Family, as they move from New York to Michigan and into their family’s ancestral home. Upon arrival, the family not only uncovers mysteries hidden inside their great grandfather’s Spiderwick Estate, but also discovers a secret, fantastical world around them.
The series’ ensemble cast includes Bryant as “Helen Grace”; Noah Cottrell as “Simon Grace”; Lyon Daniels as “Jared Grace”; Mychala Lee as “Mallory Grace”; Jack Dylan Grazer as the voice of “Thimbletack” and Slater as “Mulgarath.”
The Spiderwick Chronicles is executive produced by Coleite, who serves as showrunner, Kat Coiro, who directs the first two episodes of the series, as well as Tony DiTerlizzi, Holly Black, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, Julie Kane-Ritsch and Grace Gilroy. Produced by Paramount Television Studios & 20th Television, Paramount Global Content Distribution distributes the series internationally. |
