ʻOlu, Duffy’s Newest Friend, Makes Your Heart Sing at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa
Duffy’s new friend ‘Olu is making his global debut at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, in Ko Olina, Hawaiʻi with an exclusive new line of merchandise on July 27, and I’m so excited to share their beautiful story of friendship with you! Here’s how they met:
As Mickey and Duffy sailed the islands on a quest to find the perfect birthday present for ShellieMay, rhythmic sounds of an ‘ukulele called to them over the ocean, leading them to a cozy cove and to ‘Olu, a kindhearted turtle playing happy music.
‘Olu smiled and shyly greeted Duffy, “I play my ‘ukulele to make songs of love. Want to sing with me?” ‘Olu strummed a beautiful song for his new friends. “That will be the perfect present for ShellieMay!” said Duffy excitedly. Off to the party they went, singing the special song together for their birthday friend.

Aulani, A Disney Resort and Spa, Welcomes StellaLou, a Dancing Bunny Friend of Duffy
Duffy’s friend StellaLou is making her first visit to Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa. Here is how she decided that she just had to visit and find out about the hula, Hawaiian dance:
One day, Mickey and Duffy were sharing their memories from their recent trip to Hawai‘i. Excited and curious, Duffy’s friends were all ears! As Mickey and Duffy talked about all of the things they saw and experienced, what caught StellaLou’s attention was the Hawaiian dance they talked about. Curious about all kinds of dance, StellaLou decided that she needed to experience this dance for herself. Her dreams were about to come true as she joined Mickey and Duffy on a trip to the Hawaiian Islands.
Aulani Resort Will Plan to Begin a Phased Reopening on November 1
Aloha!
Over the past several months we have enjoyed sharing some Aulani Resort magic with you at home. We shared peaceful scenes from the resort to help you find your Zen, an inside look at Aulani Resort, Cast Member performances of hula at home and celebrated national Lū‘au Month. Through it all, we have looked forward to welcoming families back to our vacation paradise when the time was right, and today we’d like to share our plans with you.
Given Hawaii’s recent announcement of a pre-arrival testing program for those traveling from out-of-state, we are working toward a phased reopening of Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa beginning on Sunday, November 1. And just like our other Disney destinations that have re-opened, we are using a measured approach that focuses on the health and safety of our guests, cast and community.
Our gradual, phased approach to reopening considers the guidance of local and national government and health authorities, including the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as the U.S. Travel Association and Disney’s team of health and safety experts. This deliberate approach allows us to evaluate and adjust along the way, as circumstances and the recommendations of health authorities evolve.
Because each of us shares a responsibility for the health of our community, we will be making resources available to help make guests aware of our new policies, so they, too, can do their part.
We look forward to helping you make new memories with your family, friends and loved ones at Aulani Resort in the near future. Please continue to visit Aulani.com for updates.

In honor of the resort’s reopening, check out the video below where Jeanette Lomboy, Creative Executive for Aulani Resort for Walt Disney Imagineering and Shelby Jiggetts-Tivony, Vice President of Creative and Advanced Development for Disney Parks and Entertainment takes us back to the creation of a resort that combines the wonder of Disney with the beauty of Hawai’i in one legendary vacation destination.

Meet Music-loving ‘Olu Mel at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa
Aloha, friends!
Today I have some exciting news to share with you. Now you can meet ‘Olu Mel, A Disney Friend of Duffy, at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, playing endearing and uplifting music on his ‘ukulele. While he is known to be a bit shy, he is happiest enjoying nature and making others smile with his music, which is exactly what brought him to Aulani Resort.
Mel is short for “melody,” and ‘Olu Mel got this nickname from Duffy and ShellieMay after they heard his beautiful singing. He finds inspiration for his songs in the rhythm of nature, including the gentle trade winds of Hawai‘i, rolling sounds of waves and the patter of tropical rain on leaves. When he plays, he puts his whole heart into the song, knowing his friends will feel the love in every note.
You can meet ‘Olu Mel as well as other favorite Disney characters, including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck and Stitch on your next trip to Aulani Resort.
Please join all of us at Aulani Resort in extending a warm, “E komo mai,” welcome, to this kindhearted turtle!
If you’d like to celebrate the excitement of ‘Olu Mel’s arrival be on the lookout for ‘Olu Mel merchandise including ‘Olu Mel and Duffy and Friends in a special Tori Richard aloha print that is only available at Aulani Resort. Select products featuring ‘Olu Mel are also available on shopDisney.com.
