Oman to develop $103.9m mega indoor theme park, 'Majarat Oman'
A $103.9m mega indoor theme park is set for Oman following the signing of an agreement between the FBF group of companies and Arab Malaysia Development Company (AMDC) to develop “Majarat Oman".
The Al Sawadi Beach Resort, halfway between the Omani cities of Muscat and Sohar, will host the 25,000m² attraction which is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2016.
Syed Asad Ali, managing partner of AMDC told journalists, told Times of Oman after the signing ceremony that the project's design and build consultants, Australian firm Sanderson, are now starting the final design and the Ministry of Tourism has already given provisional approval for the project.
Asad Ali added that the park should attract an average of 3,000 people per day and up to half a million people per year: “We are looking at 350,000 domestic visitors and 150,000 foreign tourists,” he added.
The project is expected to create more than 300 permanent jobs and many part-time jobs for Omanis and has reportedly attracted investment interest from Omani and Malaysian pension funds: “We will finalise the financial closure within two months,” said Asad Ali.
Arab Malaysia Development Company was established in 2011 and has interests in real estate development, hospitality and family entertainment centers. Majarat Oman is the first undertaking by the company in Oman, which shall be developed by Amusement Cities, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) formed by Arab Malaysia Development Company.

Agreement to develop Oman’s first family theme park signed
FBF Group of Companies and Arab Malaysia Development Company (AMDC) on Wednesday signed an agreement for the development of a US$100mn (RO38.4mn) indoor theme park.
The Majarat Oman Family Theme Park will be located within Al Sawadi Beach Resort compound. Spread over 25,000sq m, it is scheduled to open in 2016.
Addressing a press conference, Syed Asad Ali, managing partner, AMDC, said, “This is going to be the sultanate’s number one tourist destination. It will be a state-of-the-art theme park. We are expecting at least half a million visitors in a year.”
He said the park will even have business centres and spas. “It will have Oman’s first-ever 30-seat balloon ride, a family entertainment centre, fun rides and live shows. It will offer visitors an unforgettable visit full of fun, thrill, speed and adventure.”
It will have four exciting zones: Alien Colony, Fuzzie’s World, Space Station and Neptune Water Park. “The park will provide atleast 300 permanent jobs to Omanis as well as part time jobs.”
The park is expected to have a soft opening early 2016.
