- Citation :
- “To all businesses who believe they can play a part in creating a world of unique experiences, I encourage you to go to our website now, register your details and together we will create our footnote in history.”
“It is a day to celebrate British innovation and technological wizardry,” Pierre-Yves Gerbeau said. “Electrosonic, Katapult and Garmendale are all leaders in their fields and together we are on a journey to create our own slice of history by building the UK’s first next generation theme park. But turning our vision into reality will be complicated.”
“We will be the first theme park across Europe, to be built from scratch in nearly 30 years,” he added. “We will be one of the only operationally carbon neutral parks in the world. And with our investment in sustainability and the environment, we will be beacon of what can be achieved when the environment, commerce and entertainment flourish together, hand in hand. To make that vision a reality, we will only work with the best of the best that industry has to offer and today marks the first day of that exciting journey ahead.”
Electrosonic is a leading international audiovisual and technology services company founded in 1964. The company’s audiovisual and technology services are used to create incredible experiences at global attractions such as Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi.
Paul Taylor, senior consultant at Electrosonic, said: “It’s fantastic news for us and a brilliant project to be part of from such an early stage. As a company that is involved with many of the most iconic themed entertainment brands and attractions around the globe it is a real thrill to have an opportunity of working on such an exciting project here in the UK and right on our doorstep. We are really looking forward to being part of the team that will deliver this iconic attraction as the project starts to build real momentum.”
Garmendale Engineering is a family-owned and run business, founded in 1980. Garmendale is a leading theme park ride systems specialist, and has established working relationships with theme park operators including Universal Studios, Merlin Entertainments and Parques Reunidos.
“Garmendale is absolutely thrilled to be part of what will be a truly exciting and revolutionary project,” said Garmendale commercial director Zoe Shelmerdine. “It will be a huge asset to the UK and will allow the ‘best of British’ talent to attract a global audience to the UK. This will hopefully put the UK back on the world attraction map and it is exactly what our industry deserves after a challenging 18 months.”
Katapult, the international guest experience design agency, was established in 2001. The team is led by Dawn Foote, co-founder and CEO, and Philip Higgins, co-founder and chief creative officer. Katapult works with the Lego Group, Cartoon Network, Warner Bros and BBC. The company’s projects can be seen at more than 81 attractions across 20 countries.
“We are incredibly excited to be working with the London Resort team on this iconic project here in the UK,” Foote said. “As experienced themed attraction designers, we understand what it takes to create immersive experiences that wow and inspire visitors. We’re looking forward to working with PY and the team to do just that, and create a next generation theme park our country will enjoy and be proud of.”

- Citation :
- Last year the marshland where developers hope to build the £2.5bn attraction was designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), as it is home to scores of rare species, including the jumping spider.
The status granted by Natural England – the government's environmental advisory group – means any future plans must take into account the abundance of wildlife but does not preclude development from taking place.
Green campaigners urged broadcasters to pull the plug on the deals after concerns were raised over its eco-credentials.
BBC Studios, the commercial ventures arm of the corporation, has since confirmed it is no longer involved with the project.
A spokesman said: "BBC Studios has no commercial agreement in place with London Resort and no current plans to enter into any agreement.
"We would only consider doing so should there be clear and decisive evidence that the project would have a net positive environmental impact."
An ITV spokesman also confirmed the channel's intentions, adding: "ITV's arrangement with the London Resort was that we were a potential licensor of one of our children's brands, which was Thunderbirds.
"We can confirm that ITV no longer has a commercial arrangement with London Resort as the agreement has now ended. This means that Thunderbirds will not be a part of the park."
Nearly 4,000 people signed an online petition started by local campaign group Save Swanscombe Peninsula urging the BBC to scrap their involvement.
The London Resort project originally involved the American film and TV company Paramount which had lent its name to the park before withdrawing in 2017.
It later came back on board and developers acquired the necessary licences to still have rides based on Paramount Pictures' films.
Next month a long-awaited preliminary meeting will take place on the examination of the bid.
But environmental campaigners have raised more than £50,000 to protect the Swanscombe Peninsula and cover legal bills to fight against the development proposals.
A spokesman for London Resort said: "Nobody ever said major infrastructure projects were easy or quick. We look forward to delivering the first top tier theme park for the UK." |

- The London Resort theme park KO'd after years of planning as company pull out
Plans for a Kent theme park touted as the UK's answer to Disneyland have been withdrawn today after the London Resort developers announced that "revisions are required" to their plans
Plans for a huge theme park near London which aimed to be the UK's Disneyland have been sensationally withdrawn.
The London Resort was set to be located on the Swanscombe Peninsula in Kent and was due to open in 2025 despite suffering a host of setbacks.
But in a shock twist, The London Resort today (March 29) announced on its website that the current application has been withdrawn.
In a statement, PY Gerbeau said: “In the best interests of the London Resort, we are withdrawing the current application; as a result of the classification of Tilbury as a Freeport which has meant revisions are required in moving the ferry terminal from Tilbury to Grays.
"We are working closely and collaborating with Thurrock Council on that matter."
The ambitious project had faced a series of hurdles along the way and had been controversial with some conservation groups.
Last year Natural England designated the Swanscombe Peninsula a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
In a letter sent in late November to the Infrastructure Planning Inspectorate, the resort's CEO PY Gerbeau said that following the decision there would not be "material changes" to the resort's application, but instead there will be "subtle changes in the green infrastructure strategy".
The £3.5billion plans to construct the 1,150-acre (465-hectare) London Resort were also opposed by conservationists who said it would damage wildlife habitats in the area.
The most prescient of these was a rare jumping spider only found in one other place in the UK.
Just the size of a fingernail, the spider is critically endangered and seen as a conservation priority on the UK list of Biodiversity Action Plan species.
In the UK, the spider's only other habitat is the West Thurrock Marshes in Essex.
However, despite the latest setback, the theme park's developers have said they are still "still 100% committed" to the project and have said plans will be resubmitted before the end of 2022.
The resort recognises that the best route for the project is "through withdrawal and resubmission of a fresh DCO application" which will happen within this calendar year.
They had previously made a commitment to spend £150m on environmental improvements on the peninsula.
