James Cameron has always been a filmmaker with a vision – a director who sees and imagines possibilities that the rest of us can’t. Speaking to Empire in the upcoming world-exclusive Avatar: The Way Of Water issue, the legendary filmmaker opened up about his plans for the later movies in the series – including the possibility that he may appoint someone else to bring the saga to its conclusion. “The Avatar films themselves are kind of all-consuming,” Cameron admits. “I’ve got some other things I’m developing as well that are exciting. I think eventually over time – I don’t know if that’s after three or after four – I’ll want to pass the baton to a director that I trust to take over, so I can go do some other stuff that I’m also interested in. Or maybe not. I don’t know.” Previously, Cameron handed across Alita: Battle Angel – a project he long planned to adapt for the screen – to director Robert Rodriguez, while remaining on board as executive producer and co-writer.

Still, Avatar is Cameron’s own world – and he sounds particularly enthused about where the story goes in the later movies. “Everything I need to say about family, about sustainability, about climate, about the natural world, the themes that are important to me in real life and in my cinematic life, I can say on this canvas,” he explains. “I got more excited as I went along. Movie four is a corker. It’s a motherfucker. I actually hope I get to make it. But it depends on market forces. Three is in the can so it’s coming out regardless. I really hope that we get to make four and five because it’s one big story, ultimately.”The saga is only just beginning – let James Cameron’s next epic vision commence.

Voilà une nouvelle effectivement surprenante mais on peut comprendre Cameron qui voit le temps passer et ses autres projets stagner. Après tout, on a bien George Lucas qui avait passé la main pour les deux suites de son premier Star Wars, à la différence près que le talent de Lucas ne résidait pas spécialement dans la réalisation, alors qu'on a bien du mal à imaginer quelqu'un à la hauteur du projet de Cameron !

Notons qu'à la sortie prévue du cinquième film, James Cameron aurait 74 ans.

Finalement, on a appris lors de la D23 Expo que le tournage du film avait commencé, avec James Cameron aux commandes (reste à savoir s'il réalisera lui-même le cinquième).

Aujourd'hui, le producteur Jon Landau a révélé que la majorité du premier acte du quatrième Avatar était tourné.

Il révèle aussi que chaque film nous présentera de nouvelles cultures et de nouveaux biomes, tout en continuant d'inclure ceux rencontrés précédemment.

James Cameron confirme que le deuxième film est rentable et que le 4 et le 5 entreront bien en production.
Il reconfirme qu'une partie du 4 est déjà tournée, certainement des scènes qui nécessitaient de profiter des jeunes acteurs avant qu'ils ne grandissent trop.

Argument non valable, sauf pour Spider (confère Kiri, interprétée par Sigourney Weaver).

Le film est décalé de... TROIS ****** D'ANNÉES au 21 décembre 2029 !

Eh, regarde le bon côté des choses ! Si la rumeur d'une zone Avatar est vraie pour après 2028-2029, cela signifierait qu'on sera encore en pleine ferveur d'Avatar et la zone pourrait sortir de terre pour le dernier opus. Moi qui avais peur qu'Avatar soit un peu derrière nous et que ça ferait une espèce d'IJA, serpent de mer. Là je reprends un peu confiance pour qu'ils nous le mettent aux Walt Disney Studios ^^
