Kevin Feige, président de Marvel Studios, va produire un nouveau film Star Wars avec Kathleen Kennedy !

Citation :
To the surprise of no one, Kevin Feige is a huge Star Wars fan. It might surprise many, however, that the Marvel Studios chief is going to be developing a Star Wars movie as Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy makes new plans for a wave of projects set in the universe, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Feige had discussed a foray into the Star Wars universe in a late summer meeting with Kennedy and studio co-chairmen Alan Horn and Alan Bergman, sources say. In response to a query from THR, Walt Disney Studios co-chairman and chief creative officer Horn said, "We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Blood and Bone with Emma Watts and Fox. With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together."

‘Loki’ Exec Producer Michael Waldron Tapped To Write Kevin Feige’s ‘Star Wars’ Movie As Part Of New Deal With Disney

After penning Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and serving as head writer and exec producer on the upcoming Disney+ series Loki, Michael Waldron is looking to stay in business with Walt Disney Studios in a big way.

Sources tell Deadline Waldron has been set to write a new Star Wars feature film that Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios and Chief Creative Officer of Marvel, will develop and produce for Lucasfilm and Disney. This just one part of the recent deal Waldron signed with the studios that will keep him in business with Disney for some time.

Disney declined to comment.

Besides writing this new Star Wars film, the deal also is expected to bring back Waldron in some capacity for Season 2 of Loki. Not only is the deal a rarity at the studios, it clearly shows how much faith Disney, Marvel and Lucasfilm have in Waldron going forward and surely should open doors for years to come and many more high-profile properties.

This the first piece of news about Feige’s Star Wars film since the project was first rumored in the fall of 2019. Lucasfilm recently announced several films at Disney’s Investor Day, including Rogue Squadron with Patty Jenkins, however this was not one of them.

The project was first rumored following the success of Avengers: Endgame and before the launch Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the final installment in the most recent trilogy of the franchise. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy was looking to start a new era of Star Wars films and given how much love Feige had for the franchise and how masterfully he navigated the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the past decade, felt the perfect fit to spearhead a new feature on the beloved IP.

Since Waldron has just been brought on, there is no idea when this film get into production or make it in front of audiences, but his attachment adds momentum to the film’s development.

As for Waldron, he is an Emmy-winning writer who created and serves as head writer and executive producer for Marvel and Disney+’s upcoming Loki series and is writing Marvel’s sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness for Sam Raimi. He created and is executive producing Starz’s upcoming wrestling drama Heels. He began his career on Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty, where he won an Emmy for his work as a writer and producer on Season 4.

Deadline - 7 janvier 2021.

Kevin Feige’s ‘Star Wars’ Movie to Be Written By ‘Doctor Strange 2’ and ‘Loki’ Writer Michael Waldron

Kevin Feige‘s mysterious Star Wars movie has a screenwriter. Disney has reportedly tapped Michael Waldron, the writer of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and head writer and creator of the upcoming Disney+ series Loki, to pen the yet-untitled Star Wars feature film being developed by Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige.

Waldron has been hired to write the new Star Wars movie being developed by Kevin Feige as part of the writer’s recent deal with Disney.

It’s still unknown in what capacity Feige will be involved in the project, whether he will be just producing it, taking an executive position at Lucasfilm, or any other option. We do know that Feige’s Star Wars movie is not one of the projects announced at Disney’s Investor Day, which includes the new Rogue Squadron film from director Patty Jenkins and an untitled project from Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi.

Disney declined to comment on the news, but the deal appears to seal Waldron’s involvement with the studio for the foreseeable future, with this painting the possibility of a second season of Loki or other projects under the Disney umbrella. Waldron has already seen some success under the House of Mouse, rewriting Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness after original director Scott Derrickson stepped down.

But Waldron’s involvement in Feige’s Star Wars movie suggests that the wheels are starting to turn in the film’s development. We haven’t heard much of anything about the project since it was first reported to be in the works in fall of 2019, when Walt Disney Studios co-chairman and chief creative officer Alan Horn revealed it.

Shortly after, Feige cryptically teased that something was in development, but we haven’t heard a peep otherwise. Waldron’s involvement suggests that Disney and Lucasfilm are finally getting started on getting the film off the ground.

Feige himself is busier than ever, with at least 17 feature film and TV titles scheduled over the next two years — not to mention his side gig producing a “Star Wars” movie alongside “Star Wars” feature projects from fellow superhero storytellers Patty Jenkins (“Wonder Woman 1984”) and Taika Waititi (“Thor: Love and Thunder”). Feige isn’t exactly eager to talk about venturing into a galaxy far, far away. But in his conversation with Variety over Zoom, the 47-year-old super-producer was candid about just how much of himself he’s poured into “WandaVision,” and how the pandemic is already reshaping his plan for the MCU

We’ve reported as have others that “Loki” showrunner Michael Waldron is going to be writing a “Star Wars” movie that you are producing. What is the rough time horizon for that for you? Are we thinking early, mid, or late 2020s?

We’re thinking that we’re not — that is, um — everything you’ve heard about that has been been leaked. It’s not stuff that we’ve officially announced or gotten into. So, suffice to say, the focus is on all the number of Marvel things we’re working on. The what, where, when and how of that [“Star Wars” movie], I don’t know. I’m excited for “The Book of Boba Fett,” and the “Rogue One” show, and the Obi-Wan show, and Patty’s movie, and Taika’s movie. [Smiles] After “Thor: Love and Thunder,” of course.

Le scénariste américain Michael Waldron confirme à Variety être actuellement en pleine écriture du scénario du film produit par Kevin Feige :

Citation :
Now that you’re done with this movie, how far along are you with the “Star Wars” movie you’re working on with Feige ?

We’re finally into it in earnest. I mean, I’m writing away. It’s a lot of fun. I’m enjoying having the freedom on that to do something that’s not necessarily a sequel or anything. It maybe has a little bit less of a — it just doesn’t have a bunch of TV shows and movies that you’re servicing on top of it, the way I did with “Doctor Strange.” So it’s nice. It feels like a different exercise.

Pas encore très concret comme projet, d'après Kennedy :

Citation :
Is it true that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will produce a Star Wars film? “I would love to see what movie he might come up with,” Kennedy says. “But right now, no, there isn’t anything specifically.”

Selon Variety, le film Star Wars produit par Kevin Feige ne serait plus en développement. Idem pour Rogue Squadron de Patty Jenkins.

Variety a écrit:
‘Star Wars’ Shakeup: Kevin Feige and Patty Jenkins Movies Shelved, Taika Waititi Looking to Star in His Own Film (EXCLUSIVE)

When Jon Favreau stepped onto the red carpet for the Season 3 premiere of “The Mandalorian” on Feb. 28, the Disney+ show’s creator and executive producer was feeling nostalgic.

“It’s been a while since we’ve been all together here like this,” Favreau told Variety, evoking the November 2019 premiere for the launch of the show — and of Disney+ itself. “It was before the first episode aired!”

At that time, “The Mandalorian” was a scrappy landspeeder in the vast “Star Wars” galaxy, nipping at the heels of “The Rise of Skywalker,” the culminating feature film from director J.J. Abrams that was expected just a month later to obliterate the box office like a cinematic Death Star. Instead, “The Mandalorian” became a global sensation thanks to the incandescent cuteness of Baby Yoda, blasting Disney+ into light-speed with 26.5 million subscribers in its first six weeks.

“The Rise of Skywalker,” on the other hand, imploded in spectacular fashion. The film earned just half the grosses of 2015’s “The Force Awakens” and the widespread scorn of fans, and “Star Wars” movie development has been stuck in the bogs of Dagobah ever since. Whereas Disney+ boasts a robust fleet of live-action “Star Wars” series — three streamed in 2022 alone — not a single “Star Wars” movie has received a greenlight, let alone gone into production. The earliest a film is scheduled to debut in theaters is December 2025, six years after “The Rise of Skywalker.”

It’s not for want of trying. In December 2020, Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy announced that “Wonder Woman” helmer Patty Jenkins would direct the next “Star Wars” movie, the one-off adventure “Rogue Squadron.” But in September 2022, Disney pulled the title from its scheduled December 2023 release, and sources with knowledge of the production say it is no longer in active development at the studio. (A rep for Lucasfilm did not respond to a request for comment. In December, Jenkins said in a statement that she was still developing “Rogue Squadron,” but “I don’t know if it will happen or not.”)

Meanwhile, Variety has learned that a possible “Star Wars” feature produced by Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige is also no longer in active development at Lucasfilm.

When news of Feige’s involvement with a “Star Wars” film broke in September 2019, it churned up fan speculation, since widely debunked, that he was in line to replace Kennedy as the leader of Lucasfilm. The movie remained alive as recently as May 2022, when screenwriter Michael Waldron (“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”) told Variety that he’d started working on a “Star Wars” screenplay for Feige. “I’m enjoying having the freedom on that to do something that’s not necessarily a sequel or anything,” Waldron said.

Five months later, Feige hired Waldron to write the script for 2026’s “Avengers: Secret Wars,” the “Endgame”-style culmination of Marvel Studios’ Multiverse Saga. Between that project and the 19 other titles (and counting) that Marvel’s announced for theaters and streaming in the next four years, Feige’s responsibilities to the MCU are keeping him far, far away from “Star Wars” for much of the decade.

As for Rian Johnson, the in-demand filmmaker has made no secret that he still wants to make the “Star Wars” movies he first announced in 2017 before the release of his film “The Last Jedi,” and Kennedy has been clear that Lucasfilm still wants him, too. But Johnson’s immediate priorities — continuing his Benoit Blanc movies with Daniel Craig for Netflix and Season 2 of hit Peacock series “Poker Face” with Natasha Lyonne — will keep him occupied for the foreseeable future.

So what “Star Wars” movie could slot into that open December 2025 release date? Sources say “Thor: Love and Thunder” filmmaker Taika Waititi continues to work on his possible “Star Wars” feature, and he would most likely have a part in it as well, similar in prominence to his standout role as an imaginary Adolf Hitler in his Oscar-winning 2019 feature “Jojo Rabbit.” And although Lucasfilm has yet to officially confirm it, sources say the studio is committed to a “Star Wars” movie from director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a two-time Oscar-winning documentarian (“Saving Face,” “A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness”), who made her live-action narrative debut with two episodes of 2022’s “Ms. Marvel” for Disney+. Damon Lindelof (“Watchmen”) and Justin Britt-Gibson (“Counterpart”) were attached in October to write the script for that movie.

Whether one of those films, or some as-yet-unannounced project, lands at the front of the line has been a fiercely guarded secret at Lucasfilm, but sources say the studio will begin to unveil its plans for the future of “Star Wars” cinema at the Star Wars Celebration convention in London the weekend of April 7. That announcement, however, will compete with expected updates for at least four Disney+ series, including the final season of the critically acclaimed “Andor”; new shows from Leslye Headland (“The Acolyte”) and Jon Watts (“Skeleton Crew”); and the first major push for “Ahsoka,” a spinoff of “The Mandalorian” and the animated series “The Clone Wars” starring Rosario Dawson that aims to debut in late summer.

So, for now, Lucasfilm’s message to “Star Wars” movie fans: Patience, you must have.
