A Day At The Sea. Fausse alerte donc.
The Sun a écrit:
JOHNNY Depp will return to the Pirates Of The Caribbean as Captain Jack Sparrow – five years on from the last film.
Depp, who played the boozy buccaneer in all the previous five films, is scheduled for a test shoot in the UK in February according to a new call sheet from the production. Insiders said the working title of the new film, being made by Disney, was A Day At The Sea. A source said: “Johnny is set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow and is scheduled to start filming at the beginning of February at a top secret location in the UK.
“Everything is in the early stages and there is still no director attached to the project, which is being called A Day At The Sea. “Johnny is expected to do a test shoot in early February before the production gets fully underway. “All the other details are being kept under lock and key. The whole project is shrouded in secrecy and Disney want to keep everything under wraps as best they can.”
Depp, 59, made his debut as Sparrow in The Curse Of The Black Pearl back in 2003. The first five films grossed over £3.4billion worldwide and were reported to have made Depp over £200million.
His future on the franchise was thrown into doubt after he lost his libel trial against The Sun in November 2020 after he was labelled a “wife beater” in an article about him and his ex-wife Amber Heard. Depp, who split from Amber Heard, 36, in 2016 after a year of marriage, went on to sue her for defamation in the US and won in June. During that trial Heard’s legal team asked Depp if he would ever return, asking: “If Disney came to you with $300million dollars and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates Of The Caribbean film?” Depp replied: “That is true”. Women’s charities said they were concerned to hear Depp had been signed up for the role once more. Women’s Aid said: “When someone is accused of or found guilty of domestic abuse, it is important that all employers take this seriously, and that includes employers in film and TV. “When domestic abuse is swept under the carpet and quickly forgotten about, it sends a dangerous message that it is not that serious. “Domestic abuse could not be more serious, with three women every fortnight being killed by a current or former partner in the UK.”
Fans of the films and Depp started a petition to get him back on board as the morally devoid marauder – with over 800,000 people signing it in a bid to pressure bosses to sign him up.
Last week Margot Robbie revealed a new female-led Pirates project had been axed.
The production was believed to have been created to bridge the gap after Depp was distanced from the franchise.
Daily Mail a écrit:
Johnny Depp NOT returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean in sixth film despite rumors embattled star would reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow after being AXED by Disney
Johnny Depp will not be returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, despite a report claiming his name had been spotted on a call sheet for a new movie in the hugely popular film series. Rumors began circulating Wednesday after a report claimed he would be reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow despite being axed from the franchise by Disney in 2018.
However, sources confirm to DailyMail.com that the information is false. Depp, 59, last played the swashbuckling character in 2017's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, before producers decided they wanted to bring in 'new energy' to the hugely popular film series.
An insider had alleged to The Sun that a sixth film in the franchise was in the pipeline with a working title of A Day At the Sea, claiming: 'Johnny is set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow and is scheduled to start filming at the beginning of February at a top secret location in the UK.'
Meanwhile, the insider further claimed: 'Everything is in the early stages and there is still no director attached to the project, which is being called A Day At The Sea. 'Johnny is expected to do a test shoot in early February before the production gets fully underway.'
The source continued: 'A call sheet has been distributed among those in the know. Bruce Hendricks, who worked on the first three films, is named as the Executive Producer on the new project.'
In 2018, a Disney producer claimed that Depp would not be asked to return, saying they wanted to bring a 'new energy' to the much-loved films.
New ideas to breathe life into the franchise, included a female-led Pirates Of The Caribbean, starring Margot Robbie. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair this month, the Oscar nominee revealed the highly-anticipated of the film will her in it will not happen. 'We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led—not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story—which we thought would've been really cool, but I guess they don't want to do it,' she said of Disney.
While he may not be doing another Pirates of the Caribbean movie, over the summer it was announced that Depp would be directing his first film following his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.
The father-of-two will be directing the film Modigliani, a biopic about Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Depp will be co-producing the film with Al Pacino and Barry Navidi in what will be the first flick he has helmed since making his feature directorial debut with the 1997 film The Brave. Modigliani, which is based on the play written by Dennis McIntyre and has been adapted for the silver screen by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski, follows the artist in Paris in 1916. 'Long considered by himself a critical and commercial failure, Modigliani navigates a turbulent and eventful 48 hours that will become a turning point in his life, ultimately solidifying his reputation as an artistic legend,' THR writes. Production is set to begin in Europe in spring 2023 and casting will also be revealed soon, according to THR. News of the movie comes after Depp took on the role of King Louis XV in Jeanne Du Barry, his first film role since his defamation trial against Amber. Jeanne Du Barry marks a return for Johnny after much of Hollywood blacklisted him following domestic violence accusations from Amber. Filming on the project reportedly began in July - following the end of the trial - and is expected to last for 11 weeks, according to Deadline.
Restarting the five-film “Pirates of the Caribbean” series is another priority, although nothing official has been announced. “We think we have a really good, exciting story that honors the films that have come before but also has something new to say,” Mr. Bailey said. Will the franchise’s problematic star, Johnny Depp, return as Captain Jack Sparrow? “Noncommittal at this point,” Mr. Bailey said, seemingly inching the door open.
When he’s not on “The Last of Us,” Mazin has been working intermittently on both “Dune” movies and circling a new “Pirates of the Caribbean” installment, but only if he can work with Ted Elliot, who co-wrote the first of the franchise and two subsequent films.
“We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it, it’s too weird. And they did!” Mazin reflects on a project. “And then he wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone’s waiting around.”

Pirates of the Caribbean Producer Confirms Next Movie Will Be a 'Reboot'
Pirates of the Caribbean is getting a fresh start with its sixth installment.
It's been nearly seven years since the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie was released in theaters, and Disney is still looking for a way to navigate new waters for the smash hit franchise. There have reportedly been a lot of ideas about the future of the franchise, including a film with Margot Robbie in the lead role and a plan that involves getting Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow back into the mix. As it stands now, however, it appears the franchise is going with a total reboot, starting fresh with new ideas and new characters.
ComicBook.com recently spoke to legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer about his new film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and we asked about the future of a couple of his hit franchises: Top Gun and Pirates of the Caribbean. Bruckheimer pondered which of the two may return to the big screen first, and in doing so mentioned that Pirates is hitting the reset button.
"It's hard to tell. You don't know, you really don't know," Bruckheimer began. "You don't know how they come together. You just don't know. Because with Top Gun you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does Top Gun, I can't tell you. But we're gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don't have to wait for certain actors."
Of course, with Top Gun, Bruckheimer is referring to Tom Cruise. The iconic action star has multiple films lined up for the future, including a direct sequel to Top Gun: Maverick. So the production will likely be at the mercy of Cruise's schedule. For Pirates, all bets are off, as the team at Disney appears to be starting from scratch.
It'll be interesting to see exactly what direction that fresh start takes. A film starring Margot Robbie can't be completely ruled out just yet, though that probably got a lot more challenging in the wake of Barbie's massive success. What we can assume, though, is that the new movie will be taking some big swings.
The Last of Us creator Craig Mazin worked on a story for the new Pirates alongside original screenwriter Ted Elliot. Things got put on hold because of the strikes last year, but Mazin told the LA Times that their script was very weird and that Disney seemed to like it.
"We pitched it and thought there's no way they're buying it, it's too weird. And they did! And then we wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone's waiting around," Mazin explained.
Entertainment Weekly a écrit:
Pirates of the Caribbean producer hopes to make both reboot and Margot Robbie film (exclusive)
"It's two different films," producer Jerry Bruckheimer tells EW, adding, "We hope to get 'em both made."
When last we heard of Pirates of the Caribbean, the franchise seemed astray in wayward waters. Barbie and Harley Quinn herself Margot Robbie was going to make a new movie for the beloved Disney brand, but then she said in a 2022 interview that she didn't think the Mouse House wanted to make it anymore.
Perhaps, however, the franchise isn't as directionless as once thought. Jerry Bruckheimer, a longtime producer of the Pirates films, offers Entertainment Weekly a promising update on both Robbie's film and the separate reboot he's involved with.
"It's two different movies," Bruckheimer says. The first is the reboot he's planning to produce with his Young Woman and the Sea scribe Jeff Nathanson writing the script, and the second is the one from Robbie's camp that was penned by Christina Hodson from Birds of Prey. "We hope to get 'em both made, and I think Disney agrees they really want to make the Margot one, too," Bruckheimer says.
Robbie told Vanity Fair in a November 2022 cover story of her treatment, "We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led — not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story — which we thought would've been really cool, but I guess they don't want to do it."
The last film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series was 2017's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which returned Johnny Depp for his fifth movie as rum-guzzling Captain Jack Sparrow alongside franchise favorites Geoffrey Rush (Barbossa), Orlando Bloom (Will Turner), and even Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Swann). Bruckheimer produced that installment, which was written by Nathanson and co-directed by Joachim Rønning. Bruckheimer would reunite with Nathanson and Rønning on Young Woman and the Sea (in theaters May 31).
Now the longtime producer and Nathanson are deep into Pirates territory once again. "I think he's cracked it," Bruckheimer remarks. "He's got an amazing third act. We just gotta clean up the first and second and then we'll get there. But he wrote a great, great third act."
He confirms this treatment is intended as a reboot and wouldn't follow familiar characters, but he voices his support for another appearance from Depp.
"It's a reboot, but if it was up to me, he would be in it," Bruckheimer says. "I love him. He's a good friend. He's an amazing artist and he's a unique look. He created Captain Jack. That was not on the page, that was him doing a little Pepé Le Pew and Keith Richards. That was his interpretation of Jack Sparrow."
The actor's future in the franchise didn't look so good in the midst of his past legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, who accused him of domestic violence. He sued his ex for defamation over an op-ed she wrote about being an abuse survivor. A Virginia court ruled in 2022 that both actors defamed each other, but mostly sided with Depp. They ordered Heard to pay Depp $10 million in compensatory damages, and ordered Depp to pay Heard $2 million. Depp has since signaled that he doesn't need Hollywood to continue his career.
Bruckheimer also confirms to EW that another National Treasure movie is still in development from Ted Elliott, who wrote the first Pirates movie. "These things take time," Bruckheimer explains. "Your writers sometime really need to dig in and sequester themselves. Ted is a phenomenal writer, but he's not the fastest. So we wait and wait and wait, but he's excellent. And you know what? It's worth the wait. When you have a great writer, it's gold. When you get something on the page, it looks so easy."
