“Game of Thrones” creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are going to write and produce a new series of “Star Wars” films, Disney announced on Tuesday.
The new series will be separate from the main episodic Skywalker saga that started with “Star Wars: A New Hope,” as well as the Rian Johnson series that was announced last year.
“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, in a statement. “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”
“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since,” Benioff and Weiss said in a joint statement. “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’ is complete.” http://variety.com/2018/film/news/star-wars-game-of-thrones-new-films-david-benioff-db-weiss-1202689489/
Game of Thrones Creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to Write and Produce a New Series of Star Wars Films
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are going from Winterfell to a galaxy far, far away.
It was announced today that Benioff and Weiss, creators of the smash-hit, Emmy Award-winning television series Game of Thrones, will write and produce a new series of Star Wars films.
These new films will be separate from both the episodic Skywalker saga and the recently-announced trilogy being developed by Rian Johnson, writer-director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.
“We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”
No release dates have been set for the new films, and there have (thankfully) been no sightings of White Walkers around Lucasfilm.

The Hollywood Reporter : Many believe Disney should pump the breaks and not put out a Star Wars movie each year.
Bob Iger : I made the timing decision, and as I look back, I think the mistake that I made — I take the blame — was a little too much, too fast. You can expect some slowdown, but that doesn't mean we're not gonna make films. J.J. [Abrams] is busy making [Episode] IX. We have creative entities, including [Game of Thrones creators David] Benioff and [D.B.] Weiss, who are developing sagas of their own, which we haven't been specific about. And we are just at the point where we're gonna start making decisions about what comes next after J.J.'s. But I think we're gonna be a little bit more careful about volume and timing. And the buck stops here on that.
Citation :
“…approached about working on the next movie this Autumn. It is not the Rian Johnson trilogy, it is the Game of Thrones guys’ first movie, and it is set during the Old Republic, as Disney wants to open up the Star Wars timeline and appeal to a more ‘Game of Thrones‘ style audience.”
“So the timeline is hundreds of years prior to the Skywalkers, so think almost Star Wars meets Lord of the Rings.”
“Filming starts in the Fall and art departments are in design phases now as the script is being finalized. That is all I know but I am 95% confident that this is accurate.”

Lucasfilm putting the Star Wars movies 'on hiatus' after this year
After The Force Awakens, the Force is going to rest again and recuperate.
Star Wars movies are going on hiatus while the Lucasfilm team focuses on Disney+ streaming shows and examines ways to keep creating new films that cover unexplored territory.
There won’t be a new Star Wars film next year. And probably not the year after that either.
“We’re going to take a hiatus for a couple of years,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy tells EW. “And we’re taking the time to really look at where this is going from the standpoint of a saga.”
She said the creative brain trust will take that time to map out a wider narrative strategy. “We’re not just looking at what the next three movies might be, or talking about this in terms of a trilogy. We’re looking at: What is the next decade of storytelling?”
Not all projects are being canceled. A new series of movies fromThe Last Jedi writer-director Rian Johnson are still part of the plan, as are new films from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
In fact, she revealed they are working in tandem. “As they finish Game of Thrones, they’re going to segue into Star Wars,” Kennedy said. “They’re working very closely with Rian.”
This December’s Episode IX — now known as The Rise of Skywalker — will mark a conclusion to the Skywalker saga, she said, and with books, comics, TV shows, and movies mining every moment of that era for stories, it may be time to venture into distant timelines.
It’ll still be a galaxy far, far away, but the new tales may be set an even longer time ago.
“Yes, absolutely. I think that that’s absolutely on the horizon,” she said. “We’re looking at whether we can move massively in one direction of the other. It’s still Star Wars, and holding on to the DNA of what George created is still very important to us.”
“I think this is a huge opportunity to step into the galaxy in a little bit different part of the timeline,” Kennedy added.
In addition to J.J. Abrams’ The Rise of Skywalker, the Disney+ series The Mandalorian from Iron Man filmmaker Jon Favreau, and a new galactic spy series focused on Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor from Rogue One, Kennedy also said she is on the hunt for new talent and storytellers.
“We have a series of filmmakers that we’re bringing into the fold, that we can start to look at as directing talent, and we’re trying to bring women into the mix as well,” she said. “We’re making it very inclusive with the group of people that we’re pulling together.”

Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy on Planning "Next 10 Years" of Star Wars Films
The producer is talking with Rian Johnson and 'Game of Thrones' showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to discuss the future: "We are looking at the next saga."
It’s the end of an era — and a saga. As the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker promises, the Dec. 20 movie will bring a piece of cinema history to a close, and according to Lucasfilm's president Kathleen Kennedy, that’s been the plan all along.
“We knew we were going to close this up, we knew that even before we started The Force Awakens,” Kennedy told The Hollywood Reporter on Friday at Star Wars Celebration in Chicago.
Disney CEO Bob Iger has spoken about Episode IX being the final Star Wars film for some time while the company focuses on small-screen efforts The Mandalorian, from Jon Favreau, as well as an untitled Rogue One prequel starring Diego Luna. But Kennedy is already planning plenty of big-screen adventures to come.
"We are looking at the next saga. We are not just looking at another trilogy, we're really looking at the next 10 years or more," Kennedy said.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi writer-director Rian Johnson is developing a trilogy of films, while Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are crafting their own trilogy.
“This [movie] is the culmination of the Skywalker Saga; it’s by no means the culmination of Star Wars," said Kennedy. "I’m sitting down now with Dan Weiss and David Benioff...and Rian Johnson. We’re all sitting down to talk about, where do we go next? We’ve all had conversations about what the possibilities might be, but now we’re locking it down."
This summit is on the calendar for next month, Kennedy said.
Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams came into the project after the September 2017 exit of Colin Trevorrow, and for him it was a chance to complete the journey he started with 2015's The Force Awakens.
“When Kathy called and asked if I’d be interested in coming aboard this movie, I was surprised by how emotional I felt about it,” Abrams told THR. “I didn’t expect to feel the way I did, and the opportunity to finish the story we started was something I couldn’t resist.”
The Rise of Skywalker isn’t just the end of the story started in The Force Awakens; it’s also the end of the nine-movie cycle started with 1977’s original movie. Abrams described trying to tie everything together as “this crazy challenge,” but believes that the movie will satisfy the demands placed upon it.
“The beauty of working with [co-writer] Chris Terrio and producing with Kathleen Kennedy is that I think we have found a way — I hope, it’s up for you to decide — to bring this story to a conclusion in a way that feels satisfying, surprising, amusing, shocking, all the ways that a story should make you feel. Mostly, it’s an adventure story about this new generation of characters who have inherited all sorts of things from those who come before. That was, in a way, how I felt about working on this movie.”
Everyone involved with the movie was staying tight-lipped about any potential plot spoilers for the none-more-secretive movie, but a running theme in talking to the cast was the sense of responsibility and community the final installment brought.
“I’m very proud of the story that J.J. put together, and I’m very proud of the performances,” John Boyega said. “It’s all of us together, and for me, that was enough.” Daisy Ridley added, “I felt a lot of emotion because I was so happy with what we were doing, I was so happy with the people I was working with, the cast and crew was amazing. All of the other stuff sort of falls to the wayside. You’re just trying to do the right thing [for the movie]; that’s all you can do.”
Ridley also sidestepped any question about the title’s meaning with regard to Rey’s parentage by talking about how new the title actually is. “I only learned the title last week,” she said. “I’m still processing.” Boyega, she added, only learned the title "last night."
Naomi Ackie, who plays new character Jana, said that her experience on the movie included “a lot of quiet moments sitting very quietly on the carpet floor saying, ‘I just need a second to get over this.’ It can be quite overwhelming, but this experience has been, and continues to be, so positive. It’s helped me grow as a person, to be honest.”
Also positive was the standing ovation Kelly Marie Tran received at the Star Wars: Episode IX panel, coming after she had temporarily stepped away from social media after being targeted by trolls. “I was so emotional,” she said. “I definitely did not expect it, and I was all, ‘I’m not prepared! I’m not prepared!’ I was just trying to keep it all together.”
Tran was one of the few castmembers willing to entertain the possibility of appearing in a future Star Wars project, saying, “I love what Rian [Johnson] did, I love what J.J.’s doing, and I love that I’ve had the chance to be a part of it. I would never put an X on anything.” Boyega, on the other hand, said that he was “absolutely” ready to step away from Finn for the time being, explaining that the Rise of Skywalker shoot “gave me all the pleasure I needed, all the closure I needed” after spending years with the character.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed a Knights of the Old Republic project is officially in development for the Star Wars franchise.
Speaking with MTV News, Kennedy was asked about a possible Knights of the Old Republic project directly when she confirmed there is a project officially on the table but remained tight-lipped on any further details.
In addition to confirming a Knights of the Old Republic movie, Kennedy also confirmed Lucasfilm is looking for female directors to helm entries in the franchise once its future is planned out.

The upcoming film is the ninth in the so-called Skywalker saga and slated for release on Dec. 20.
After that, the franchise will focus more on TV projects, Iger said.
“We will take a pause, some time, and reset,” he said, “because the Skywalker saga comes to an end with this ninth movie. There will be other Star Wars movies, but there will be a bit of a hiatus.”
“We have not announced any specific plans for movies thereafter,” Iger said in a Bloomberg Television interview Thursday. “There are movies in development, but we have not announced them.”

The Studios’ 2019 slate rounds out with Fox’s The Woman in the Window on Oct. 4 and Ford V. Ferrari on Nov. 15, Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil on Oct. 18 and Disney Animation’s Frozen 2 on Nov. 22, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on Dec. 20, and Blue Sky Studios’ Spies in Disguise, moving from September to Christmas. The updated calendar also sets release dates for major franchises Avatar and Star Wars. With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker bringing the original Skywalker Saga to its conclusion, three new as-yet-untitled Star Wars films will release on the pre-Christmas weekend every other year beginning in 2022. Four forthcoming Avatar films, expanding the vibrant world of Pandora, will release on the pre-Christmas weekend every other year beginning in 2021. In the holiday corridor for 2020, Fox’s West Side Story adaptation, directed by Steven Spielberg, will debut Dec. 18 in the pre-Christmas slot, with Disney’s Cruella opening Wednesday, Dec. 23, for the long holiday weekend.
“We’re excited to put in place a robust and diverse slate that lays the foundation of our long-term strategy, bringing together a breadth of films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Fox, Fox Searchlight, and Blue Sky Studios to create an extraordinary collection of cinematic experiences for audiences around the world,” said Cathleen Taff, President, Theatrical Distribution, Franchise Management, and Business & Audience Insights, The Walt Disney Studios. “With a strong summer already in place, we are eager to carry that momentum forward over the coming years thanks to a creative wellspring of bold and imaginative stories coming from our world-class studios – including several new chapters of two revered franchises, Avatar and Star Wars.”
"L'échéc" de Solo a finalement conduit LucasFilm à abandonner complètement l'idée de sortir ses films en Mai au lieu de décembre finalement, c'est assez drôle !
Espérons que les films soient de bonne qualité !

Normalement non. La saga numérotée s'achevant normalement "définitivement" avec l'épisode IX.
Et tu les crois ?
A priori oui.
