- Deadline a écrit:
- Shawn Levy In Talks To Direct A ‘Star Wars’ Film After ‘Deadpool 3’ & ‘Stranger Things’ Final Eps
Deadline can reveal that Shawn Levy is in talks to come aboard to develop to direct a Star Wars film. We are trying to pry loose details of plot and writer, but this we can tell you: Levy will focus on this one after he completes the job directing Deadpool 3 at Marvel and Disney, the one that brings Ryan Reynolds together with Hugh Jackman.
This comes at a prolific moment for Levy. He is in post-production on the limited series All the Light We Cannot See, for which Levy directed all four episodes. That series is for Netflix, where he also will direct at least two episodes of the fifth and final season of the streamer’s signature series Stranger Things, which Levy EPs through his 21 Laps banner. The Deadpool 3 deal comes after Levy teamed with Reynolds on The Adam Project for Netflix. Star Wars will be his third recent big film at Disney, where he also directed Reynolds in Free Guy, with a sequel being discussed. Levy is back in franchises after starting there with the Night at the Museum films. - Deadline a écrit:
- ‘Star Wars’ Shawn Levy Movie Being Penned By Filmmaker’s Collaborator Jonathan Tropper
Deadline has confirmed that the Shawn Levy directed Star Wars movie we first told you about back in 2022, is being penned by Jonathan Tropper.
The news comes as Levy is about to detonate the summer with his directed Marvel Studios feature Deadpool & Wolverine, which some tracking services have at a $200M opening and others as the biggest R-rated domestic start of all-time, beating the original Deadpool‘s $132.4M.
Tropper has a long history with Levy, having written his Netflix movie, The Adam Project, which starred Deadpool‘s Ryan Reynolds. He also wrote the Levy directed Warner Bros 2014 dramedy This Is Where I Leave You and the 2017 Netflix dramedy Kodachrome, which Levy produced under his 21 Laps banner.
On TV, Tropper created the Cinemax crime thriller series Banshee, as well as Warrior, and was a showrunner and scribe on AppleTV+s Jason Momoa series See. He’s also the creator of that streamer’s upcoming series, Your Friends and Neighbors with Jon Hamm, Amanda Peet and Olivia Munn. - Variety a écrit:
- In an interview conducted last year, Mark Ruffalo said, “You always get the same version of ‘Star Wars’ each time.” Now that you’re working on one, how will you do things differently ?
When Kathy Kennedy brought me on board to make a “Star Wars” movie, her central mandate to me was “I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and a tone that reflects you and your taste and what you bring to your movies — with a ‘Star Wars’ story.” So I have felt extremely empowered. We are in early days, unfortunately, because the development process was abruptly paused [due to the WGA strike], but I feel very empowered to trust my instincts in the development of this story and movie.
Could “Deadpool 3” be good practice for “Star Wars” ?
The experience that I’m currently having with Marvel on “Deadpool” is showing me firsthand that it is indeed really possible to feel empowered and personal about making a movie within a universe that is bigger than any one film. My “Deadpool” movie is turning out to be exactly what Ryan [Reynolds] and I had hoped when we started off. So I’m going into the development of my “Star Wars” movie with a similar optimism, and faith that my instincts will be allowed to lead the way.
Since you’re close to Adam Driver, could your “Star Wars” movie be a prequel to “Episode VII: ‘The Force Awakens” in which Kylo Ren would be back?
Your words, not mine! As you know Adam is a buddy, and I’ve always been a huge fan of Kylo Ren. But no comment. |
