| And Mickey's Fun Wheel and the Games of the Boardwalk are featured on the California Adventure map. (Note the Mickey face on the Fun Wheel, and the sunburst and Paradise Pier logo on California Screamin') http://micechat.com/forums/blogs/dateline-disneyland/1054-building-mickey-rising-sun-bibbidy-boutique-thunder-ranch-grand-californian-more.html |

| It's off to work we go... Aside from those new openings and upcoming events, work continues around both parks with the usual Disneyland refurbishments and the ongoing DCA Extreme Makeover. Regular readers who have noticed an upcoming refurbishment for Peter Pan's Flight shouldn't expect the expensive new boats with double rows of seats we told you were discussed several years ago. Instead the attraction will get its usual cleaning and freshening, in addition to a new fleet of boats. The new boats won't have a second row, but they have been designed to carry more weight and will have noticeably wider seats to accommodate those ever growing 21st century posteriors.Route 66 to be 86'd
Meanwhile at DCA, more construction walls will go up around the unsuccessful Golden Dreams theater the moment the new restrooms are completed across the street in May. By early June not only will the Golden Dreams building be crumpled under the bulldozers, but the adjacent Souvenir 66 store and Corn Dog Castle will also be closed to transform into their Victorian era replacements.
The new versions will mesh much better with the lavish Little Mermaid show building next door, although the land these two small buildings sit on is a potential expansion area for next decade once Goofy's Sky School ends its run.
] First look at the new version of Games at the Boardwalk
Today's focus is the "Games of the Boardwalk", which opened up to guests yesterday in its new, upgraded version. But there will be other tidbits, and of course, Baby Ducks, and even "Pre-teen" Ducks, which are great to see, as they survived the "Circle of Life" issue the first week of their lives.
Games, will that be Cash or Credit?
The new, more "Disney" themed Games of the Boardwalk opened on Tuesday. and there are more changes than just some "theming".
While some of the games are pretty much the same, the systems that operate the games have been upgraded to a much more secure computerized system, similar to many other Amusement Parks/County Fairs.
The first step is the use of "Play Cards", which are purchased from a machine. This has a few benefits for the company. First off, CM's no longer handle money, which prevents theft. Also, the machine can handle Credit/Debit Cards, so Disney can access a larger pool of guests, aka more impulse buying. Disney is using the same system they offer at the ESPN Zone.
The cards start at $5, and are sold in $5 increments. All games cost $2.50 a play (one weird exception). Unlike most locations, there is no discount for larger purchases. $50 gets you 5,000 points (basically a point is worth one cent), and $5 gets you 500 points.
Also, all the new games (with the exception of the Fishing Game) use computers to determine winners and what prize they get. CM's are required to use a cordless scanner to scan the bar codes of the prizes handed out to winners.
This is important to the company, as they can easily watch over both the cash flow, and prize redemption, and make sure there are no abuses in the system.
So lets look at the games, going from left to right...
The first game is "Goofy About Fishin' ".
This game is pretty similar to the prior version. The nice thing is, everyone wins. You randomly pick a fish out of the "stream", and then see which of the three colors are on the bottom. You get the prize that matches up with the colored dot on the bottom of the fish.
This is more than likely the best game for families with small kids. They might get lucky, and win a big prize, but at least they get a small prize to take home.
Note, all the prizes are from the "Fiesta" company, which is well known for supplying Amusement Parks with prizes. None of the prizes are Disney themed, but they do match the basic theme of the game.
[url=http://www.fiestatoy.com/]Fiesta Toy plush toys and stuffed animals. Teddy bears zoo and jungle sea life reptiles North American animals and more plush toys.
The second game is "Dumbo Bucket Brigade", which is a "water pistol" race game. Aim the water stream at the target, and the first one to the top wins a prize.
Next is Casey at the Bat. This game is a throwing game, where you need to place a baseball in a specific circle. This is also the one game where there are two price points. You get 3 balls for 250 points, and 8 balls for 500 points. But be careful, only one prize can be won each game play. So while you get two extra balls when you spend 500 points at one time, you can only win one prize, which might happen in the first or second throw.
The fourth game is a return game, but this time themed to "Bullseye Stallion Stampede".
It is a race game, where you roll a ball up a ramp, trying to get it to land in a high level hole, instead of a lower level one. The winner gets a prize, but in this game, the more players in the race, the larger the stuffed animal will be.
Overall, the area is nicely themed, the light fixtures are a nice touch.
And the pricing is reasonable (Many games were $3 in the original format).
While the games are not for everyone, the addition of "Disney" themes and much better looking facades has definitely plussed the area. http://micechat.com/forums/blogs/in-the-parks/1057-first-look-new-version-games-boardwalk-some-quick-updates.html |

On avance bien. |

- 2010 - Disney’s World of Color - (4/17/09) Today we received a micro-burst transmission from one of our deep undercover spies which contained some juicy new information about Disney’s Wonderful World of Color show. All along we’ve heard the goal for this show was to make it the “Fantasmic Killer”… the much needed “Killer App” for DCA to lure in and keep the crowds after dark. Up front they knew that to do this, the show was going to need cutting edge technology, something that would “Wow” people today the same way that Fantasmic did in the ‘90s. They also knew, from past experience with Pyro on the lake, that the show simply couldn’t rely on adding more pyro to make it flashy due to all the smoke problems. Lets go over briefly some of the technology I’m old we’ll see put to use in the show.
First up is a little something they called the Water Whip, which is a moving water fountain unit that is able to rotate and tilt up to 55º in any direction. I’m going to guess that this is the water equivalent of a theatrical “moving light” fixture. From what I understand the show will use somewhere near 2,200 water fountains total in the lake, with each hooked up to a “LED light ring” to create extremely bright vivid colors in the water. If that wasn’t cool enough, I understand that they have also created a little something called a Flame Whip, which will work in much the same fashion as the Water Whips, but with a flame thrower unit. I’ve also been led to believe that these flame units may also be able to create different color flames through the injection of specific chemicals into the mix.
Now anyone who has seen the construction pictures lately has got to be wondering just what that huge stage-like structure is they are building in the middle of the lake. From my basic understanding, the various show elements will be mounted to this surface, which will be divided up into over 170 different “table” units, each able to rise to the surface and lower again as needed on an individual basis.
Now while we’ve covered all the “next gen” technology to be used for the water and fire effects, lets talk a bit about the video side of things. Like Fantasmic this show will feature projections onto several large water screens, but that’s where the similarities end. The largest water screen in this show will shoot water an amazing 100 feet into the air, and fan out to form a surface approximately 280 feet wide. For a quick mental visual comparison, remember that Mickey’s Fun Wheel is approximately 150 feet tall and wide. If that wasn’t big enough, I’m told that this massive central screen will link up with two smaller water screens on either side, to increase the overall size of the screen space to 400 feet wide.
To ensure the bright crisp images, I’m told that they will use a pair of video projectors for each section of the screen, with a total of 6 of the double stacked rigs put to use at once to be housed inside some kind of lighthouse themed structure. In addition to these, though the use of some of the moving water fountains, they will be able to create a moving “screen” of water that will be projected upon by some separate projectors that will move in sync with the screen. I’ve also heard something about how they will use a 50 foot tall Chernabog figure, where the entire head area will be created with a mist screen. Overall, this show seems set to do just what they planned and become DCA’s much needed Killer App. |

| Les échaffaudages sont partis ! - Citation :
- MICKEY'S FUN WHEEL
Scaffolding around Mickey's Fun Wheel has been taken down as the project gets closer to its May 8th open date.
The colorful character-adorned gondolas await guests...
Work is now focused on the queue, which seems to have gotten the short end of the stick on this remodel. The same cheap and un-themed yellow canvas covers from the Sun Wheel have been stretched back up above the queue.
What's unfortunate is that this project has resulted in essentially zero progress from its impossibly uninspired predecessor. While the Games of the Boardwalk got shiny new, Victorian-themed facades and new character-themed sets inside, the Fun Wheel just got the characters and some new paint. What kind of remodel is that?

Merci Flickr : http://www.flickr.com/photos/louis5977/ |
